What sort of god would take my wife away from me, with breast cancer, at 28 years old. As the vicar said "god giveth and god taketh away".

Any decent god would have took the likes of Hindley and Brady instead.

There is no god, anybody who believes there is, is either totally naive or has been brain washed from being a child.

When you honestly look into the beginning of the world/universe/us you have no choice but believe in a Creator. Evolution did not happen and can not happen, fact. So we came from some where!

The Bible tells you where, how and why we are here and has , especially recently, been scientifically supported and proven as fact.

On the other hand I have found zero evidence that would support a no Creator theory.

My question would be how, why could you believe that God does not exist?!

I do believe in God.. but I guess in a Quaker way, so:
Quakers have widely divergent beliefs and practices, but the central concept to many Friends (Quakers), especially those from the unprogrammed tradition, may be the Inner Light or "that of God within". Some contemporary Friends speak of the Inner Light as a guiding force within each person, as part of the individual human personality, but early Friends beginning with George Fox identified the Light with Christ and emphasized that the Light comes from God and is given in order to show people how to live in harmony with God's will. [1]
It's useful, because you'll be aware of living in harmony with those that surround you.

i believe their is a higher power .. a creator if you like .. i don't like the word god although i use it in general conversation ( saves a lot of time )
i have seen too many wonderful things in my life to doubt that there is someone more wondrous behind it all
i look at my children and don't doubt that their being here isn't a miracle in itself
i totally understand and respect those who don't believe mind you because i truly feel its about perception .. you see what you want to see and how we view the world and those around us is relative to how we are as a person
some see nothing but negative in the world .. i rarely see the negative and when i do i tend to see the counterbalance or possible reasoning behind it
so each to their own .. i don't feel it makes us any better or worse individuals for our beliefs
Ive been accused of wearing rose coloured spectacles all my life .. but that's OK .. the world looks nice in pink :o)

and mathsman , so sorry to hear about your wife xxxx

Most of the world's population beiieves in some sort of God.

Perhaps one reason for this is that they are intellectually and spiritually strong enough that they don't need the "proof" that atheists always demand.

If a person needs proof that God is real, then he/she just isn't mentally strong enough to believe.

The reason I believe in God is that we all seem to have innate talents and innate things we're bad at.This means there must be a certain path for each of us to follow.Where would this come from if not a Creator?

There are many books on apologetics.

I'd recommend:

"Mere Christianity", CS Lewis

"The Case for Christ", Lee Strobel

or

"Science and Christianity: Coherence or Contradiction" H. F. Schaefer

In short, there is more evidence for a God than against a God.

Any speculation on the origin of the universe that comes from "science" is merely a different leap of faith. You may choose to go that route, it's your prerogative, but it's hubris to say that it's based on science, and it's fiction to say it's based on "logic".

I believe God exists because I see His work around me in the earth, sea and sky, because when I read the Bible I hear more than the voice of man speaking to me, because when I pray I receive answers that baffle and humble me, and because since the day I asked Jesus to come into my life He has never failed to love me and provide for me.

Bottom line, faith and experience have convinced me that there is a God.

I believe in God because I have tried and tested the reality of such by proving Him in my everyday life. I have seen God transform people from being utterly evil to a complete new person. I have seen His power at work through healings too. I know God personally, through a relationship in Jesus Christ.

If you know someone, then of course they have to exist!
