yes and no ;-)
Abs are the unspoken heroes of cycling, you need strong abs to ride well. Your abs support your posture and link and support your arms and upper back. These are especially active when climbing and those afore mentioned here strong legs and good looking a***.
Abs kinda tie it all together.
But cycling particularly road rides do little to develop your core also upper body.
You may loose weight and look better with the abs ya' got but "you can't get there from here".
Good things to work on might be some excersises in Spin class, weights with a stability ball, yoga or pilates, anything you do for cross training that you enjoy, weights....think of it as strengthening your core, not just abs!! Back, upper back, it's all important.
Now log off this dang computer and get outside and ride!!

Cycling does not give your core muscles (back or abs) a workout. However, developing a stronger back and abs in the gym will improve both your climbing and enable you to stay in an aero TT position longer and more comfortably.

Cycling will slim you down big time, weather you are mountain biking, road biking, or taking a spin class. It will tone up your upper body, build some seriously sweet leg muscles, and leave you with a fine ***. Oh yeah, it's tons of fun too.

No, but if you have a good core then you are more effective on the bike.
