Take pride in everything you do! Don't you realize that you look foolish when you don't know how to communicate?

Dont use the "I was typing too fast" excuse. THERE IS NO EXCUSE!!!

Great answers so far...the point is not that I am a control freak, or that I have a stick up by a**... But for those of you slackers who don't care about how you express yourself let me impart a bit of pseudo wisdom: if you want to be taken seriously at anything, have pride in EVERYTHING you do. EVERYTHING...

Oh and for the Brits, Canucks, Aussies, and Kiwis out there, those of us in the US spell some words differently, like realize, favor, defense, etc...

I'm starting to think they misspell on purpose. Maybe for attention but there are so many questions that I can't answer just because I don't know what the heck they are trying to say!

Allybally:
I typed in realize and spell checked it but there were no errors found. I typed in realise and it corrected it to spell realize.
In the UK it is realise
In the US it is realize
check things out before correcting other people's mistakes!

I know what you mean. It is scary how many people are unable to commincate a simple idea or piece of information effectively.

Maybe it is a level of schooling. Also, perhaps, age is a factor. However, I do find it a little discncerting that 'dumb' seems to be the prefered option for too many, instead of taking pride in their actions.

Maybe, it is because people are from a foreign country and are less confident with their grammar than a native speaker. This does not answer some of the abhoritions of spelling that I have seen.

But over all I think it is just a deliberate act for many who simply have never learned how to construct a written sentence properly. For this I think there is little answer other than many people do not read anything for pleasure. TV seems to have lowered the communicative aspirations of so many.

A good question and food for thought. Thanks. I do not feel though that this site is about perfection as it is intended as a quick fun way of answering questions, and not an excercise in grammar. This is the reason why it highlights so many deficiencies.

Some people have a little trouble with spelling. That does not make them bad foolish or any other derogatory term. Are you perfect at everything? What level of maths are you good to for instance?

A lot of people try and use spell check but it frequently come up with 'there is a problem with spell checker'. That suggests that the spellchecker is not robust enough to keep up with the number of people trying to use it.

The idea of Answers is really based on an exchange of information. It most definitely is not any kind of test of spelling or anything else.

I wasn't typing too fast...I just didn't have time to check my spelling. I answer questions between work assignments, and generally don't have much time to give good answers, much less check spelling.

The thing about my misspelled words is that most of them are typos...not words that I misspelled because I can't f&cking spell. LOL (i.e. A good deal of the time I type "woudl" instead of "would"). I do type fast...about 95 wpm, but I'm usually accurate unless I'm rushed. Which I am right now. So I'm not checking my spelling. :D

The Awful Truth: The world is broken down into two groups: people who take pride in everything they do, and people who are lazy and careless.

The first group is (are, if you are British) aware of how they present themselves to others, and hope to make a good impression.

The second group cares much more about their own ease and enjoyment, and are self-centered.

Now. The big question is, how can we beat a little respectful behavior out of the current self-absorbed generation who can't even be bothered to pull their pants up so we can't see their underwear?

There, I said it.

Not everyone was raised by someone constantly saying, "Don't do a half-assed job!" but for those of us who were, it is very frustrating when spell check is on the blink and brings out a side of us that would upset our parents more then the afore feared "half-assed job."

Didn't it ever occur to these perfectionists that the expression "half-assed job," which will remain with us the rest of our lives, is undeniably crude? Wasn't it half-assed child-rearing to not think of a more elegant way of expressing the same idea?

communication is more important than spelling.Wronglly spelled words communicates the same meaning as a right spelled word.
Yes if its a test of knowledge , right spelling is required such as in school otherwise in general communicationit does not matter.

Recently even the school teachers are adviced not to detect marks on wrong spelling if the child has communicated the purpose.

I completely agree with you. There is even a box that checks the spelling for you. How lazy can people be? Also I don't understand why people spell how they speak. An example "Cuz U told me 2." This just makes me think the person is either ignorant or ten years old.

Yes there is and get over it. A lot of us are at work and trying not to get caught on here so yes, we are sometimes going too fast. It's not that big of a deal. Plus, there are a LOT of young kids on her and people who don't speak English but attempting their best and if the illegal Mexicans would try as hard as these people do, I'd at least give them credit for that. If you are from a non-English speaking country, you keep on typing and don't worry about the spelling. We'll do our best to figure it out..

Because they want to be the first with the correct answer regardless if the spelling is correct or not so that way they have a better chance of getting that 10 points.
