Instead of the dry skin theory, your dog could possibly have skin mites, which in time will cause mange which means the dog could lose all its hair from scratching. A good way to find out if this is the case is go to a vet, or try a special dog shampoo, or try dosing your pooch in chamfonique which usually kills mites on the spot. I would also make a check and see if its not Ticks bugging him/her also. Hope this helps you with your problem.

Take your dog to another vet.. if this one says the dog has no fleas well that's good, BUT he or she should have kept looking to find out what the problem is. It could be a number of things, allergic reaction, dry skin, mange etc... bring to another vet who will actually care about the dog and tell you what is wrong with it, rather than telling you what isn't wrong with it. (most likely it's dry skin... we just give our dog a raw egg in his food in the morning, 3 times a week and it gives him enough protein to stop the dry skin, and he stops itching) but you should still get your dog checked out though, cause it could be something else completely different.

I think it could be dry skin. We have a couple of chocolate labs and they are constantly doing the same thing. We put a raw egg over there food in the morning (not only helps with their dry skin but also keeps them with a shiny coat). If the dryness is too severe you can request a special cream from your vet also. Hope this helps!

Sounds to me that he has an allergy or possibly sentisitve skin that is reacting to something in his environment. Possibly the doggie shampoo? Or dog food? Here is a suggestion- go to your local pet store and by an oatmeal dog shampoo. It may help. If not and the itching gets worse-see the vet.

Might be some kind of allergies, I would suggest bathing your dog in a mild shampoo or very mild dish soap, or something calming. My vet recommends using unscented hypoallergenic baby shampoo. You can also try benadryl, but contact your veterinarian for proper dosage. Could also be food allergies..that shows up as itchy skin or dry irritated skin.

He may have allergies. Give your dog one Benedryl tablet and see if it stops his itching. If it does, he is probably allergic to something outside--about 20% of dogs have allergies.
Or, he may still have fleas. Young fleas are almost impossible to see. Or he may have had one bite and developed "flea-bite dermatitis" which afflicts a lot of dogs.
I'd try another vet.

He probably has dry skin (i kno b/c mine does too). go to the store and buy "johnsons&johnsons baby shampoo with moisture lock-in" and give him a bath and that should stop the itch.

could just be dry skin. if your dog is small, give it a teaspoon of canola oil daily. if it's big make it a tablespoon. it will help your dog produce natural body oils and help relieve dry skin. worked for my dog.
