Actually, I started cleaning a stain (a different but bad stain) with Dawn detergent (which was all I had on hand once). It cleaned the spot so well, I had to keep on going and do the whole carpet. I will still use it to this day with stains now.

Pour a bottle of coke, some industrial strength bleach, and a package of Juicy Fruit on it.
If it doesn't get it out, at least you've got a better excuse to replace your carpets.

Use an oxygen based bleach to help sanitize the area then hire a wet vacuum shampoo machine from your local toolshop.
