I'm trying to learn Mandarin but apart from the library I can't find anyone that teaches it. I live in between Manchester and Liverpool.

I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks

There are several colleges that teach it in evening classes by me, so I would have thought that there must be somewhere in large cities like Manchester and Liverpool that do too.

If you get desperate and still can't find anywhere - the Brasshouse Language centre in Birmingham has classes. If Birmingham is too far, you could call them and ask if they know of anywhere up by you. They are also on the web.

Good luck with finding a class. Mandarin must pretty hard to learn from a book as it all about the different intonations.

local chinese restaurant, at least in the US it's all run by Chinese people. Mostly in need of some money too, can give you lessons. Try instant messenger with voice or a web cam and talk to chinese in china. they love westerners and many want to practice thier english too. You can try something called QQ it's chinas instant messenger service, hard for you to get cause you'll have to sort through chinese webpages to download and then try to find someone to help you but.,... good luck but you need a teacher cause pinyin is pronounced different than it looks.

You wont find many mandarins in the north.

Move to Beijing then it will come easily.

Failing that have a go with the basic Linguaphone course at 25quid. www.linguaphone.co.uk
