Maggots eat rotting or diseased flesh but not the healthy stuff. Wounds are often treated with maggots so I guess they must be pretty deease free.

Maggots use in the medical field of treatment are specially bred. I would think that ordinary maggots could carry some disease although fishermen swear they are 100% clean.

Like any living thing, maggots can cause disease through infectious bacteria they come in contact with. the maggots used in medical procedures are grown in a sterile environment and are medically clean. I wouldnt go putting maggots found in 'the wild' on any wounds!

Wash the brushes with soap and water, then let them air dry. (It's good for your brushes, anyhow to wash them occasionally!) If you're really worried you can dip the handles in diluted bleach before washing. You'll be fine.

No, but they do live in decaying meat, so will contain many nasty bugs. The ones you use for fishing, have been cultivated, and then, before they are sold are fed on sterile bran, so they don't contain and bacteria.
