I don't see why all of you must hurt others. You say that you are Christian and so you walk the path of god, and try to be like Jesus. But was not Jesus merciful? Would he verbally abuse those who are following and staying true to their beliefs? Do you think that God would turn his back on his children because of someones beleifs whether they are true or not? If no- what gives you the right.
I know and understand there will always be debate about the subject religion. But all you who write lengthy reports and such- why? Could not you be using your time to practice your own belief instead of shunning others... In the time you wrote that letter you could have done many a glorious thing. Why can't you realize that we're all in this together! A battle aganist Satan himself!
In a war, would you say "No you can not fight, you have red hair. Only brown haired people are allowed to fight in this war."
No same with Mormons. Let us believe as we let you - IN PEACE!
God Bless!

Erin, the only reason that people who are Christians and write you about Mormonism is because we love you and want you to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Not the Jesus of Mormonism, who by Mormon teaching, is the brother of Satan. You see, the Bible, which is the only word of God, says that Jesus is in fact God incarnate. Now if you follow the Mormon belief that Satan is Jesus' brother, and Satan is a fallen angel, then Jesus would also just be an angel. That being said then God would not be God but an angel. I would love to chat with you and give you some scriptures to read. I know that Mormons claim that the Book of Mormon compliments the Bible, and if you believe that too, I know that you would be able to understand all that I have written to you by just reading the Bible verses that I would give you. It is in the love of Jesus that I write this. Please don't think I am putting your beliefs down. IM me if you are interested in those scriptures. If not I will pray for you anyway and hope that you have a great day.

Simply to reply to the person who said that Mormons believe blacks cannot go to heaven:
This is not true. Mormons have always believed that blacks, and any true follower of Christ, can go to heaven, and as such, have been baptized since the foundation of the Church. In fact, it was one of the original reasons the Church was persecuted in the 1800s, because the Church was so accepting of blacks.

This is exactly the kind of thing the Asker is asking about. Why on Earth is there so much hating? Even if Mormons believed half the crazy things that a lot are claiming, why hate them? Does God HATE anyone? Should you? (Thank you by the way to all the non-Mormons who have responded with kind words to this question. It made my day.)

I agree that bashing is not right no matter what, and dannyhigdon2112, I do not believe she was referring to good Christians like you. I have had people like you approach me out of love and tell me that the Mormon faith is wrong. Now I've never agreed with them, but their loving approach at least allowed me to listen because I knew they actually cared about me. However bashers are not approaching the situation correctly. Bashers are the ones who sit outside temple square yelling at people who are trying to go have a spiritual experience that they're all going to hell. That doesn't show caring and love. Bashers are the ones who spread the same lies about the LDS religion with spite because they HATE the Mormon people. It's not that they care about us at all, but that they hate enough to cause heartache and pain. So, true Christians, if you do truly believe I am hell-bound and wish to save my soul, you are more than welcome to do so. However I, nor any other Mormon, do not wish to be yelled at or hated. We should all be able to live in peace together, not in religious intollerance.

I do not profess to know much about your faith but the question you raise is not just applicable to your faith but applies to all. Many believe our nation is meant to be a Christian nation. That was never the intent of the Founding Fathers. It was meant to be a haven for all who believe in whatever form they choose and for those who do not believe.

Those who bash one faith will bash any not their own. And for the most part, they do not even understand their own faith. If they accepted the teachings of their faith they would bash no one.

The famous science fiction writer Ray Bradbury wrote a book of short stories entitled "The 9 Billion Names of God", the idea being that throughout the universe each civilaztion in that vast universe believed in a different way and had their own name for God. Are they all wrong? Or is God shaking His head and shedding a tear over the way we mistreat each other in His Name?

Thank you for your many heart-felt questions. I read the posts at this site and get equally frustrated.

So many people choose to rip other people's beliefs. So many people claim this or that group is wrong, is going to hell, etc.

While I am not a Mormon, I have yet to meet someone of your faith who was not kind, devoted to God, and family oriented. While my beliefs and yours differ in some areas, I think those of us who devote ourselves to doing the Will of God have much more in common than not.

Why do we focus on a few differences? Why does it matter what path to God we take?

May your faith continue to grow. Peace to you and your family.

Joseph Smith claimed to be a "translator" by the power of God. In addition to the Book of Mormon, he made several other "translations":

- The Book of Abraham, from Egyptian papyrus scrolls which came into his possession in 1835. He stated that the scrolls were written by the biblical Abraham "by his own hand." Smith's translation is now accepted as scripture by the LDS church, as part of its Pearl of Great Price. Smith also produced an "Egyptian Grammar" based on his translation. Modern scholars of ancient Egyptian agree that the scrolls are common Egyptian funeral scrolls, entirely pagan in nature, having nothing to do with Abraham, and from a period 2000 years later than Abraham. The "Grammar" has been said by Egyptologists to prove that Smith had no notion of the Egyptian language. It is pure fantasy: he made it up.

Joseph Smith claimed to be a "prophet." He frequently prophesied future events "by the power of God." Many of these prophecies are recorded in the LDS scripture Doctrine and Covenants. Almost none have been fulfilled, and many cannot now be fulfilled because the deeds to be done by the persons named were never done and those persons are now dead. Many prophecies included dates for their fulfillment, and those dates are now long past, the events never having occurred.

Joseph Smith died not as a martyr, but in a gun battle in which he fired a number of shots. He was in jail at the time, under arrest for having ordered the destruction of a Nauvoo newspaper which dared to print an exposure (which was true) of his secret sexual liaisons. At that time he had announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States, set up a secret government, and secretly had himself crowned "King of the Kingdom of God."

I think that many people do not understand that members of the church are Christians. They are ignorant and have not taken the time to look at the facts....so....they say things that they really do not understand. People are usually afraid of what they do not know. But I have known many members of the LDS Church and they are the most Christ like people that I have ever met. Not to worry thing will be taken care of one way or another because God knows the hearts of the people who are untrue to him and themselves. Blessed be.

I was baptized Mormon at the age of 12, and my parents and I went for a few years. It felt to me as though I belonged to a cult. Was not enjoyful at all. I believe that for whatever a person believes in, that they should enjoy their life with religion they belong to.
I now choose to believe in what I do believe in, and keeping it to myself, without judging any other beliefs. I'm not judging yours either. Was just stating my personal opinion.

What about African Americans? Have the "Cat People From Mars" (do you know about this source of your enlightenment?) decided that they can go to heaven yet?

Last I heard, the Mormons decried the idea, although they have recently (and only recently) allowed them to join the church.
