I want to work at a church. I do have one question though. Do people who work in the church setting make enough money to earn a living? My family does not think they do. What do you think?

Most church workers do not earn much, unless you go to a very large church.

Since most of the positions used to be volunteer positions, the older generation of Christians in most congregations have a hard time paying for the Worship Leader, Youth Leader...and other positions.

The Treasurer position and Secretary are usually the only two positions, besides Pastor, that may pay in smaller churches... and you probably won't get health coverage or retirement.

If you are looking to just serve Christ and money isn't your top priority, then do it.

If the pastor or board of directors are honest and follow the Bible as prescribed concerning church worker incomes. All the tithe that is brought into the church is to be equally divided among the workers. If it isn't, leave that church full of thieves, there is no blessing of God there. If anyone in the church uses the offerings for income rather than support of the church expenses only, again leave that den of thieves, there is no blessing of God there. "How will a man rob God?" the Bible asks, "In tithe and offerings" That doesn't mean the givers rob God by not giving (it isn't tithe or offering until it's given). It means the leadership refuses to divide it evenly to Gods workers and to the public need of the "assembly", as He said should be done

It depends on the church. Catholic churches, and smaller protestant churches, don't pay much. Some of the larger suburban protestant churches pay quite well. Like any job, though, an entry level position won't pay much. And if you are in a denomination where women can't be pastors, that will also greatly restrict your income.

Most people who go to work in the church do for the Lord. I agree with your family that most churches do not pay staff well.

It depends on the size of the ministry that you work for. Small Ministries usually do not pay well. Trust me I know from experience, but it is rewarding. So if you are trying to get rich, I would look for another source of income.

Yes, what they are given is an offering. Are you willing to sacrifice?
