Yet so many questions from the United States are inarticulate, have so many misspelled words, and unintelligible? Is the educational system really that good in the UK, or are the people on here from the US just not that intelligent?

Maybe people from the UK actually use the spell check when they respond and ask questions. Maybe the US system is so f*ed up because of the "No Child Left Behind" act that "W" has enacted to make sure that all curriculum is dumbed down so that the smartest students are bored and the slowest students can understand what's going on. And maybe in the UK they actually respect teachers and students are interested in being educated. And who knows, maybe teachers in the UK are allowed to physically punish students who are disrupting the class. Maybe schools in the UK are not overcrowded and the teacher is able to give each student the support he/she needs.

But I'm just guessing here.

Dued wut evar. Amerika rulz, you uk guys r just al gay. Amerika rulz morans.

Seriously though, there are some dumb asses on here. I've had to read questions three or four times just to try to figure out maybe what it said. I think it's partly because there are a lot of younger people on here (I'm only 25) but I'm talking maybe 13, 14. I think the educational system here sucks even worse than when I was in school. I was on the leading edge of things like "new math" and "whole learning". Since I was on the leading edge, it wasn't too bad. However my math skills are atrocious. I can't even remember how to long divide. So who knows? Maybe kids are just dumber these days. Also I know that there are probably some dumb assed grown-ups here too.

I don't see it that way!

From the Q and A's I've seen there is a mixture of good, bad and indifferent sentences from both sides of the pond. In fact, I think the UK has more of those:

do u thnk i is rong for datin him

and

Mi m8 sys i shld g 2 bd w/ hm???

questions than the US.

Of course, the UK and the US are two countries separated by a common language (Sorry Oscar) and therefore spelling and certain bits of language usage are different, but I think for the zenith of illiteracy you should look no further than your local chav nest, wherever you come from.

I have to agree with you, many questions and answers on this site seem to be typed by 10 year olds who have avoided school.

If people take the time to ask questions here, surely it only takes a second or two to check the spelling

More worrying is the point take they think they HAVE spelled things correctly, a scarifying indictment of today's American education system!

The education system isn't brilliant in the UK, I think that maybe there are less English people on Yahoo answers than Americans.

Spelling is a learned skill. One can be a good speller and not intelligent. With that said, yes, there seems to be some component of academic training missing from the U.S. school system.

I guess timing is the factor. Some UK questions tend to be bad but admittedly not as bad as some of the American ones...I assume its because the posters from America tend to be very young, sometimes you get 13 or younger posting here so don't expect perfection from them.

No, I think its because Americans are really lazy to write using the correct grammar and spelling. Also because there are many people from other countries in the U.S. who dont know how to speak English properly, but still ask or answer questions in yahoo answers.

good luck.

It should always be remembered that the English language was developed in the UK.

Where as in the USA they have had to learn the language.

Americanism did the rest.

It's simple, it's because although the Yanks seem to think they know everything and like to act as if they are the be all and end all of the World today, they are in fact just a bunch of bloody idiots.
