Let me give you a history lesson. I hope you'll understand. About seventy years ago, when the US was going through a horrible Depression, a man called Hitler started violated the Versailles Treaty, which came into effect after the end of WWI. The terms of the treaty were that Germany could no longer go on the offensive, and they could not remobilize their military for said purpose.
While this man called Hitler was working his way towards exterminating the Jews, the rest of the world turned a blind eye to Germany. We were going through a Depression, nearly the whole world was, and we had enough to deal with on our own.
Even after Hitler invaded Poland in 1939, we still did not enter the war which was slowly enveloping all of Europe. We figured it was far enough away that we had nothing to worry about.
Then Pearl Harbor was bombed. So this changed. We entered a war which, when all was told, nearly twelve million would perish in. Thank God we didn't give up.
Another history lesson. Once there was this war in Vietnam, which killed 58,000 of our fine service-people. Because of all the protesters, the survivors were brought home prematurely. Less than three years after we pulled out, three million perished throughout Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Laos, as a direct result of the Communist regime.
Now we come to this war. Do you understand what I'm saying here? We can't leave until we're done; Viet Nam illustrates what happens when we cut and run. We can't just isolate ourselves within our own borders; WWII already showed that that's not a good idea.
That's why we can't just bring our troops home, as much as it hurts to watch them leave. Even as much as it hurts when my husband and I get a phone call saying that one of our friends was hurt so bad they're not sure if he'll be able to use the bathroom properly. It breaks our hearts to hear of people we've seen in the Commisary and the PX, friends of friends, who have been killed in action.
But we understand that it would be the greatest disservice to those brave people (Iraqi AND our service-people) to send them the message that they can't do their job, they're not strong enough or capable enough.
We can't do that to them. And we can't do that to the good people of Iraq, who showed how glad they are to have freedom, by risking their lives to vote.

Although to many folks it may sound like a good idea (because Americans can be heliocentric and focus upon their own problems), it simply cannot be done.
We, the United States of America, are a world super-power. A super-power refers to a nation that has overachieved the actual goal of being a nation, and now has the authority in many international matters and/or conflicts. With that achievement, there comes responsibility. The United States has won its title as a super-power for joining wars (WWI, WWII) that has ultimately led them to having a reputation in the International Community.
If we were to pull our troops out in Iraq, let us consider what could happen:
A) A corrupt Government
B) Having Iran with a crazy president building weapons of mass destruction with uranium.
C) North Korea launching more missiles.
D) Possible revival of genocide in Africa as we have seen in Rawanda.
E) Increase in foreign and domestic terrorism.
There was once an article about Teddy Roosevelt in which he was pictured standing on top of America with a riot stick labeled "The World Police" That is our job today in America, to keep a sense of order throughout the world.
When the Korean war began, who helped the United Nations stop the communisits at the Arminstince Line? The Americans of course. The Americans made up most of the UN forces.
I don't think we would want a world such as the one Adolf Hitler wanted. A world of genocide. The words "we can just give up really quick just to keep the peace" seems quite negative if I must say so. Imagine a world without the United States. Imagine a world that only had the 6 continents rather than 7. Imagine a world shrouded with people who dared to attack the United States. Would you, as an individual go to bed peacefullly at night? Or would you sleep in terror, praying that there would be no harm befalling on you?
My answer is: "The world would be doomed if our troops were not around the world". I believe we should applaud our troops for their bravery fighting against those who wish to do harm to us".

I seriously hope you don't ever become president, people like you who have no political or international affair education just need to leave the subject alone, for one if the world kills each other, how will we trade... we lose Japan we lose most our electronics, etc etc... you get the idea. And second if communism grows to the point it was at during the Soviet Union, and stronger we'll have a problem.

Because our President made the decision to be the world police. Our country has pretty much taken on that role since the first world war. And if we don't get involved in the world, we'd be just as responsible if we knew and didn't do anything about it.

You are way too morbid. News out last night, that NK missile was aimed @ Hawaii. Based on your strategy, we give up in a few months. I don't think you'd like the results. No more MTV, PS2, lazy summer afternoons. You'd either be dead or working your butt off in a mine or some other dangerous job. We are doing the right thing.

1) Grow up, move out of your parent's house.
2) Read something about power vacuums and the results they generate
3) Read something about closing our borders.
4) Read something about war, conflict and global economics.
5) Ask your question again, only with some basic knowledge of the subject so that you don't sound so ignorant.

because the world doesn't work that way.
all because we lock down our borders doesn't mean terrorist cant launch a missile or fly a plane into a building here
we have to take action to prevent it so one day we might be able to finally achieve peace

We are not self sufficent in any respect, and need to trade and borrow to survive. This has not happened by accident.
