I think you have to go with the plate... in a cup, you'd always have standing water, and that's just no good for sleeping.

In a cup, or on a plate?
By a lake, or on a skate?
Walk the Dog, or pet a snake?
Random chance or simply Fate?
Stevie Jobs, or Billy Gate?
This joke is old, it's getting late,
I grow tired, so I will relate:
A MIXING BOWL will I habatate.
