I don't think it is so much of incapability than laziness.

Good question. I blame the educators. When I was a child, we were taught how to write properly with punctuation. Spellings were checked every week. My daughter had an easier time of it, with no great emphasis on spellings, and now her writing and spelling is atrocious but she is no worse that her friends. We were told that we would be judged by our writing and spellings, so we made an extra effort. Today, people don't seem to care.

Because it's not focused on in school anymore. Apparently there are year 12 students using sms language in their exams!!! It's also easier and faster, quicker to get points I imagine.
To tell the truth, I don't think anyone cares any more. I do, I like being gramatically correct (even though I probably spelt that wrong), because I'm a Virgo.

Poor teaching and just plain laziness. The use of abreviations and ebonics are at the root of this problem. Also, what is acceptionable in langage usage changes over time. I was taught that bigger was not a word, that you should use the word larger. I still have a problem whenever someone or an announcer says, "Bigger."

Most people on the internet write in very poor English. They get lazy and decide that they can't be bothered to write out the full words. Another thing, they can't be bothered to press that little button that says "Check Spelling."
Maybe they didn't pay attention in English lessons in school? Who knows.

Possibly due to the popularity of texting! Also I don't think schools place as much emphasis on spelling and grammer as they used to. It would appear that those you describe as incapable are actually unwilling! It's a skill anyone can learn........

Spell Check is for sissies and I've got better things to do than to make certain I don't come across like a low-grade moron by getting those questions out as fast as I can.

Because computers have grammar and spellcheck so spelling and punctunation have become less important. Text speak has also destroyed many people's ability to spell and punctuate.

Not every one is as lucky as you. Give them time they will learn. Why not ask some questions that will teach them. I'm not perfect so I'd like to know too. Be funny if you get something wrong too
