That depends... people who really have a problem with it have an addiction and will need to go into a recovery group.

Addictions are usually the result of being brought up in a home where the mother was cold, distant or not available. A kid grows up craving someone that will nurture him and that leads to the need to be close to females which can lead to an addiction related problem. Others have been sexually abused as children and that can cause a problem in this area.

Praying about it just doesn't work because this stuff is very private stuff. It must be discussed openly in a theraputic environment.

Girls have the same problem too. When every you have sexual feelings in your mind scream 'STOP' at the top of your lungs (in your head) If that doesn't work then remove yourself from the situation. I find that being alone on the internet often triggers these feelings. Do not view or read anything that might make you lustful. If you are religious, pray.

If you mean you have lustful feelings about your girlfriend, you need to talk to her about it. Believe it or not, she'll understand and most likely be happy that you ARE trying to control yourself.

I hope you find ways to keep yourself happy other then lustful actions. God Bless.

Some people see lust as the purest form of love. This viewpoint argues that being a pure emotional wish, based upon physical attraction, frees lust from the constraints of emotional baggage (or negative inner conceptual responses), and respects it for what it is, the direct emotional inner instinct and desire of one person, to carnally know and be intimate with another.

On the other hand, many people acknowledge that feelings of lust do not always imply feelings of love, and they make a strong distinction between the terms lust and love. Love in its pure form is said to be concerned with the well-being of the other, whereas lust in the average person is often more a product of their own libidinal urge than it is a product of a desire for the well-being of the objects of lust, although the two can certainly co-exist. Others consider lust ultimately incompatible with, or unrelated to, love. Some people believe lust is the selfish form or selfish perversion of love, and that love is completely selfless.

The aspect of lust as an inappropriate desire has led to its metaphorical extended use in other forms of desire to signify overwhelming desire or craving, such as a lust for power, success, or recognition. It has also been used in the sense of intense eagerness or enthusiasm, such as a lust for life.

A key sexual behavior throughout the entire animal kingdom is the seeking of a sex partner. Humans are no exception to this rule. A sexual encounter can be the result of the sending signals indicating readiness for sex, and being receptive to reciprocal signals. Or, it might be the result of years of planning, through the use of cultural rituals such as courtship and marriage.

Common methods:

Arranged partnership - other adults (often parents) choose partners. In some cultures these are suggestions, in others, they carry the force of commands.
Personal choice - a person chooses for themselves their own partner, according to their own wishes
Status based roles - a high status person in some cultures may choose partners backed by the force of social custom, and low status persons have little or no choice or expectation of avoiding the same. (For example, some employer-employee liaisons, and droit de seigneur)
Mutual trade - prostitution, or "both gain" type of arrangements.
Additionally, the pool of available and acceptable candidates may be limited, to own town, own religion, similar status, tactically advantageous (eg to cement social bonds or make peace), and so on.

Personally, I find the opinion above mine "totally flakey and full of contradictions"

Wow! ... such a Balkan Powderkeg of a question ...

Honestly, I think even the few that have some realistic success on this issue ... will avoid advising on it ... because it is such "a loaded" issue ,that can lead to delusions, schisms in personalities among many other problems ...

But I will attempt a little delving here ... First- everything living has "greed, lust and anger" ... From amoebas through humans ... They are instinct ... yes, they drive us to our most base acts ... but likewise they are the "very gift of life" ... transform the attitude towards them if you can ... do not think of them as a curse ...our entire history could not have happened without them ...

How does one integrate the "instincts to reason, soul and spirit" ....

The master should be trying to ride the donkey ...not the donkey the master ...

Eastern religion is more thorough on meditative techniques than Western traditions are for some reason ... I should mention that Taoists and Hindus believe that "periods" of abstemiousness in times of "retreat and meditation" can be of value for selfinvestigation and selfunderstanding ...but that trying to shut this release down for periods longer than a month ,is viewed as both psychically and physically dangerous ...There is nothing as rabid as a celibate monk retaining semen back into the blood ...

If with detachment in meditation you are watching your own desires competing for your attention ...you may understand them better ...don't judge these forces ...they are natural gifts of creativity on many levels ..."integrate them" .. "understand them" ...be forgiving towards the self that is united to them ... and integrate them without shame to your being ... Master self , then others shall you guide and master ...

THAT is a hard one to controll. It has ruined many people (sexual disease's, family break-up's, unfathered children etc.). This is a deep and very trouble-some problem---to maintain the Right use of Sexual Relationship, which should alway's be contained with-in Husband and Wife in a Marriage. (isn't GOD smart!, and Right all the time too.) (excuse me while I cut half of this stupid keyboard off--keep's falling off my lap, key's not in the middle of the board, guy who designed it must of went to college) (not knocking Higher learning, it's good!). King David got in big trouble with this one. Followed him all of his life too (trouble). Pure thought's is one of the better weapon's against wrong use of sexual urge's. You see it (sexual lust) everywhere, in this world today, sell thing's etc. Proverb's has some verse's dealing with this subject.
Pure thought's. The breast are for feeding little Human Being's (only babies suck teat's), and a Woman is the only Legal way to bring a Human Being into the EARTH. Pure thought's. Learn to controll your SOUL (Spiritual Super-Computer, second mind). Hope this helps.

By realizing that I am not some rutting animal and that a sense of propriety needs to be maintained to function in this world.

Is it tough? Sure, I like lust and desire; it is a part of me, but there is a time and a place for everything.

we are powerless to rwsist this without the hand of God. Prayer is the only thing we can and obey Christ. I know exactly where you are coming from. I have battled lust since I was 16. I recommend listening to Josh Harris', "Not even a hint."

Human beings were created as sexual creations. Desires and lusts will occur because you are human. If you are a Christian and have accepted J.C. as your savior, when you enter into sin you must confess to be cleansed. (1 John 1:8) I give control to GOD through confession and repentance.

Lust, whether for sex, money, power, etc, is of the law. Simply flush law as dung and lust goes away. Lust (law, temptation, evil concupiscence) is not of God.
http://www.godshew.org/Concupiscence.htm

People (even priests) get entangled in lust when they return to law ("another law", "the second" of Mt 22: 36-40 & Rom 8:2) after being "delivered from the law". Paul did it, and it notably made him feel "wrectched", since law suckers then hounds you with guilt for doing what's forbidden or not doing what's commanded. Converted Peter says it's as a dog returned to his vomit or a washed sow returning to her mire, to draw back to any law.

The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Ooohh... great question! I struggle with this a lot. I have a close relationship with Jesus and whenever I am tempted to hold a lustful thought or desire in my mind, I ask Jesus to help me get rid of it. It's a daily battle that win only when I remember to give my day over to Jesus and remember to ask him for help.
