Go HALF-time. Many financial aid programs require that you be enrolled at least half-time in order to receive aid. If you're an undergraduate, this means 6 credits. [For undergrads, this is a federal regulation. If you're a graduate student the # of credits require to be "half time" is determined by the school.]
There is no glowing financial reason to wait until you can afford to go full-time -- particularly since enrollment status often doesn't make a huge difference in the grant aid you can be offered*. You might find that your part-time job helps make you a more "well-rounded" student and/or job applicant. A lot of employers are looking for employees who have both a solid educational background and job experience -- by working part-time and going to school part-time, you'll have both!
* Check with your school for their specific policy

I would suggest that you start school as soon as possible. If you wait, you may never get started. It is easy to say that we are going to work and save our money but more often, we work and spend our money. Meet a girl, get married, have kids and you are still an uneducated burger flipper. Not a good story is it ? Well that is what happens to most guys that do not get into some sort of school.
Here is my experience. I started part time, I worked doing any thing I could that would fit my class schedule. The next semester, I seen it was not that difficult to work and go to school at the same time. So took a full time load at the University of Florida. In less than 4 years, I earned my BSME. I later went back and got a MSME and worked full time while I was working on my Masters.
No, I am not exceptional. I just did not like being poor. You can probably do even better if you bear down.

start off part time so you can get some of your classes out of the way its easier that way especially because you work... once you get the hang of it, if you can handle being a full time student go ahead.
Also keep in mind what type of school your going to.. I image your talking about college, try a community college at first its cheaper and all the prerequisites you need for your degree you can get out the way, then go to the school you want to to get your degree. Find out what classes your need; i wouldn't recommend taking classes you really don't need because it takes longer for you to finish school. And if your paying out your pocket it'll cost you more. Good Luck with school!!!

Try working/school part time first. If you don't mind waiting and want a little $ in your pocket that is the way to go. If you want to just go to school and get it over with the apply for financial aid/grant and go full time.

I'd take at least one or two classes just so you don't get so wrapped up in working you forget to go back to school. You'd also be ahead of the game when you can go full time.

It sounds as though you are somewhat in charge of the hours you work. That sounds perfect for a student. Just make sure your employers know that you will need extra study time during exams.

Don't wait. Get as much financial assistance as you can without taking out loans and take as many hours as possible while keeping your grades up and working. If you wait it may never happen.

Most people who wait to go to school never do. Even if it's part-time, you should begin as soon as you can. That way you're already committed to it.
