Assuming stem cell therapies work, and assuming the "political" barriers can be overcome, stem cell treatment won't become the "norm" anymore than bandages are the "norm" to cure people! The opportunities stem cell use seems likely to provide for replacing failed tissue (treating Parkinson's, Alzheimers. cancers of various organs) are limited but important, especially to people suffering from these diseases!

ILOVESCIENCE- what about spontaneous abortion? Is it okay to use that tissue?

It is entirely possible Ronald Reagan would be alive & healthy today had he not stopped the momentum in stem cell research when he did.

I would have to say that stem cell treatments even if they are artificially produced should be used to save or cure people of certain diseases. My daughter had lukemia and if they had a sure way of cure for disease because of stem cells then she would not have gone through all that she did for several years until we are now 20 months out of her last treatment.

For those conditions in which it proves effective, why not?

It's a shame that the ignorant would stop research that could use stem cells to treat many different problems.

As a pheresis nurse, I was collecting stem cells 15 years ago for use in cancer patients after ablation therapy. This, of course, was autologus transplantation. Except for a few cases of matching donors. I did HUNDREDS of cases

NO WAY!!!! IF your a genetically inferior human being you should live and die with the complications that come from being born that way. Ya see, if we just did things the correct way, we'd breed bad genes out... This wouldn't be an issue. OK, lets say we correct you and then you get married and have babies with inferior genes. Aren't we just exaserbating the problem.
