This question was asked before and most people answered 2 or 3.
I think this is low. Anyone else agree? I am one of two (1 boy, 1 girl). I always wished I had a brother, my sister always wished she had a sister. Certainly the ideal number of children depends on the couple (some probably don't want any). I would like 6 (we have 3 now). Anyone else have or want a large family? What kind of numbers are you thinking?

By the way...I know some people familys should limit the number of children they have because the world is "overpopulated." I wonder why they believe that - because the heard it somewhere? Fact is, if you gave a total of 7 billion people 4 sq. ft. of space (2 ft. by 2ft.) so that they are shoulder to shoulder with a little breathing room, you could fit all the people within the land area of the state of Rhode Island. If we all spread out from there, I think you can logically see we are not overpopulated. Contact me if you'd like the math on that one.

I agree with pepper...we do need to act responsibly. The problem is, it is a lie that we are in the position we are because there are too many people. Our habitat is suffering not because of the number of people, but because of the selfishness of people. Not because we need to destroy the habitat of animals, but because we choose to out of needs for shopping malls and overgrown estates. No, we have the ability to bring a whole lot more people into this world, we are just being told not to because we are too selfish to change the way we live.

I hope to have lots of kids. I think 4 is a good start. I came from a family of four siblings and i would not want any less.
Single children *that I know* are usually very spoiled and not good at communicating or resolving conflict with peers. I want my kids to learn how to be kind, forgive, share and deal with others. I would definitely consider more than four kids- not sure what my "top" number would be. I have one friend with 7 kids, plus one in heaven (miscarriage) and another with 8 and 1 on the way.

The math is not the problem if you are willing to stand shoulder to shoulder naked without any food. Even assuming that you feel that no other creature has a right to inhabit this planet, it must be remembered that each of the 6.5 billion people eats, wears clothes and produces waste products. To grow food requires space. The hamburgers you eat come from cows that need to eat to grow. They need space. The fish need space in the sea to swim.
God created a variety of creatures for a reason, a reason that we do not understand yet. We have however, successfully driven a large number of plants and animals to extinction or near extinction by destroying their habitats. The main reason is that most people have too many kids, which means they need more land to grow food to feed these mouths.
So lets make our decisions after looking carefully at the big picture. If we want to assure that the children we bring into this world have a decent life in the future, we must act responsibly. That means thinking carefully about the repercussions of our actions.

We have 3 and I want 1 more. I was 3 of 4 and my husband was 3 of 3. So a tiny family just wasn't what either of us wanted. I started wanting 6, until I gave birth the first time. Then I decided 4 was plenty!

I think the ideal number is 3 to 5. My family has 5 kids, 3 boys and 2 girls. 1 and boy and 1 girl are twins.

1 or 2 sounds ideal to me. The population is increasing so rapidly I think any number of children that one can afford is OK but maximum 2 biologically.

But I think over 6 is hard to give children the individual attention they deserve.

The ideal number is what you and your partner can afford, so long as you already live in a sparsely populated area. Keep in mind that the world is becoming overpopulated as it is, so sometimes having a large family is selfish and socially irresponsible.
