Well, first of all I would like to mention that slaves(or servants) in Israel were not suppose to be mistreated. It seems many have a problem with the fact that slaves/servants were sold. My response to this is this:

Don't people of this generation sell people?

They do! Football players are sold, models are sold, security agents are sold and many more. Not only so, they sell them also to worst things...they sell them at young ages to be models and music artists to masters who would abuse them sexually and emotionally...no wonder they end up in drugs!

Now the slaves of the bible times of ISRAEL, (not all nations) were sold and were suppose to be well taken care of.

Now let us look at God's view of slavery or servanthood:

How do we know that God wanted slaves/servants to be taken care of?

Exodus 21:5-6

"But if the slave plainly says, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,..."

What do you guys think?

Concerning selling one's child as a slave:

In our generation many sell their children to a fast, abusive and evil life of Hollywood fame. Is it not selling? It is!

But in God's case, He commanded masters of Israel not to mistreat slaves and strangers and even went to an extent of reminding them that they (Israel) were also slaves in Egypt.

Reasons for selling your child:

1.Parents who are too poor to take of their child.Don't people of this generation do it?Give up children for adoption? They do!

2.Rebellion of the child.Don't this generation do the same thing? Disown the sons or daughters who are a danger to other members of the family? They do!

In verse 8, God commanded that children should not be sold to people who did believe in God. In bible language, they are called "STRANGERS".

Sorry, in the last detail I meant to say "God did not allow parents to sell their children to people who did not believe in God."

Guess what, this generation sells its children to people who HATE GOD! It is a well-known fact that some of Hollywood's most famous actors are involved into witchcraft...

But amazing enough, these parents are willing to allow their children to work for them!!! No wonder, their lives end up in turmoil! They end up living superficial, empty lives of sexual promiscuity and drugs while their parents enjoy the millions of dollars they received from the roles that their children play in acting, music etc.

To Dorie

I am not trying to say SLAVERY is a good thing dear. I am only trying to show the world that the heart of the God we serve.

This question I pose in response to a answer received on a previous question based on the god of the Qoran versus the God of the bible.

I think that usually what happens is people judge the slavery in Israel by the slavery practice among the Romans, Egyptians or that practiced against Africans by the Europeans and Americans. They fail to see there is no parallel between slavery in the nation of Israel and those other forms.

I've been a believer for many many years. I have also studied the Bible for many years. And I must say I have absolutely no clue what you are trying to get at with this question.

Is your whole point that God wanted slaves to be treated well? Do people think that God wanted slaves to be treated poorly? Or are you trying to point to the fact that slavery did exist?

The Old Testament is Law and after the ressurection of Jesus Christ the Law no longer applies to Jews/Christians, God does not allow slavery anymore.

Of course slavery is an abomination. God doesn't make slaves, it is something man made.

God arbores slavery so much that He gave man free-will...we're not even slaves to His will. Without free-will, we'd just be enslaved biological beings.

Of two sorts of servants(slaves): servants of sin vs servants of righteousness, we are to be neither sort in the end. For "thou art no more servant" because only "above a servant" is truly "free".

Biblically servants and children differ nothing. Both have to be told what to do and not do. So also of two sorts of children: children of the wicked (children of the flesh) vs children of the kingdom (children of God), the higher exhortation is "be no more children".

The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
