The origin of everyone's favourite comfort food can be traced back to the region of Latin America and the tropical cacao tree, whose beans provided the raw material for a murky drink, consumed by the Mayan and Aztec civilisations as a symbol of ceremony, status and wealth. After the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, it was only a matter of time before chocolate fever hit Europe. The Marquis de Sade was said to have written relentlessly to his wife from prison demanding supplies of the stuff.
So why does chocolate taste so good? One reason is because good chocolate melts in the mouth (its melting point is slightly below human body temperature) - and another is that all those endorphins (feel-good hormones) are unleashed in your brain each time you take a bite. Some scientists (chocoholic ones, we suspect) reckon it increases our happiness by over 50 per cent - so smile, it's good for you.

"COLS" was totally right about her answer. These things are the reason chocolate tastes to good to our tongue and our brain.
However, chocolate ITSELF is very bitter and tastes almost like ground coffee beans. The cocoa pod in it's natural state is pretty nasty - so it's all that sugar, fat and chemicals they add that actually make it yummy to eat!

Its because eating it releases the same hormones as sex, smiling and laughing does. As all those are good things so is chocolate.

Because at certain times of the month your body craves magnesium, which is in both chocolate and peanut butter amongst other things. Also we crave it as it releases endorphins and our brain remembers that.
Also, it's naughty, so of course we love it.
