I saw that 'answer'. I was going to pipe up in response, but I decided not to.
As I've had the opportunity to say several times here today, I have copies of, and am well-acquainted with, the Bible, the Qur'an, the Tao te Ching, the Bhagavat-Gita, the Upanishads and the Analects. I don't know why anyone would reject a concept without exploring it. Or why someone would accept a concept without exploring it.
But maybe that's just me.

Many of them are very fluent with the Bible. That's we get legitimate arguments. It drives me nuts when atheists talk about something in the Bible and never actually quote the scripture. When they actually quote the scripture, they have a legitimate argument going and it's worth answering their questions because they were willing to do their homework on it.
I'm actually glad when they read the Bible. Perhaps they'll find the truth someday. But until then, they do a really good job at asking questions worth answering.
How do they know so much about the Bible? Most of them were forced by their parents to go to church and go through confirmation and/or sunday school or whatever and they are actually quite educated in the Bible, but they never believed what they were taught.
I'm a Christian and I read other "holy books" so I can give (at least somewhat) legitimate answers about different religions. I don't necessarily believe what's written in these other books, but I still read them. But I don't pretend to be well-educated in the Quar'an or anything. I just have a minute little basic concept of it.

How do you know what Christians think? If you know so much about the Bible, good for you. I don't know where it's ever been stated or written, that an Atheist is not "allowed" to read the Bible????? Get your facts straight before you try to go against the Christians. Did you wake up on the wrong side of your Atheist bed?

Why try to confirm our beliefs? Who the heck is Robert N? You can't know the bible without knowing God and vice versa! Atheist were former Christians who don't want to follow the rules of God therefore bitter towards God. A child knows that God exist and understands bible more than you and ur sects! A double minded man is unstable in all his ways!

I think that they try and keep non-Christians away from the bible because maybe they don't want us to know something they know. fear maybe? Well, some of the people who are not Christians anymore used to be devote Christians and then later found out that there was more spiritually. So does all of this hiding the bible from us make sense? no, not really. I agree with whoever said that when you have gotten past Christianity you have learned more spiritually that staying within the limits of Christianity.

I don't understand how the Bible COULD confirm an atheist's beliefs. Either you grant that it has real meaning, thereby admitting the presence of a God, or you don't.
If a Christian objects to an atheist's pointing to the Bible as a means to validate his disbelief in God, it's a reaction to the inherent hypocrisy of such an action.

I believe Atheist should read the Bible. I don't know where you got this information, but I would disagree. I think if you have a belief in something, you need to get many different view points on it. Including the opposing... :)

I would rather live my life as if there is a
God, and die to find out there isn't, Than
live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is.
Please read the Holy Bible I know I want you too. :D
However you can't know the bible without knowing God first and vice versa! Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Being an atheist is more than saying, "I dont believe in god". It is a rational and well thoughtout approach to life and living. Those individuals who approach their personal beliefs from an intellectual perspective often spend time researching many religions to determine which best suits their ideals.

Atheists read and learn because they try ways to confirm what they feel about religions being based on fiction. Believers reject this view because the majority of them do not think for themselves and base their knowledge on pulpit verses or what their parents tell them.
