How is it that Christians feel persecuted?...
Churches are not taxed, members are free to practice their faith as long as they do not offend those who do not believe as they do. When was the last time ANYONE in this country was arrested for being a Christian?
The reason you feel that "Atheists", who admittedly are a negligible fraction of our population are aggressive, is because those who do not agree with your way of thought are pushing-back....Do you not feel that Christianists are "aggressive" in trying to spread His Word? If not, you are kidding yourself. Do Atheists own TV networks? My cable company carries at least 5 full time Christian religious channels, How many do Atheists have? How many? Can you imagine if they had one, much less Five? would you believe in freedom of religion then, or would you work to squash a major Atheist movement? Am I making my point yet?
Those Christians who claim that there is a "war" against Christianity don't KNOW what persecution is.
There are also many Christianists who are insecure about their beliefs, so any finding that goes against their beliefs they take as persecution.
Galileo was persecuted for his findings. Blacks were persecuted in the South and many still are. Gays are currently being persecuted, by not being allowed to live their lives in happiness, according to the Declaration of Independence.
Don't talk about hate until you look inward and see both sides of the coin.
There is also a great degree of intolerance and ignorance coming from the Christianist movement, and many years of bloodshed in the name of Christ. The Pope admitted this recently.
Please realize that we don't all believe in the same things, but we ALL want to be EQUALLY respected for what we believe, whether we agree or not. Until then, expect for the "aggressiveness" to continue. The louder you get, the louder they'll get.
The difference between you and me is that I can not speak for others, I can only speak for myself. And I do not believe that I need to attone for "sins". While I have done things in my life that were not correct, I have done far, far much more good in my life and that when I die, I die with a clear concience, with no need to explain to anyone....
Keep an open mind, for the truth shall set you free...

1. Most of the atheists here grew up in contemporary Christian societies. Many of them were indocrined in that particular creed before outgrowing it.
2. Christianity holds the imagination of 2 billion people in this world and a disproportionate number of the people who hold the positions of power.
3. Christianity, unlike many other faiths, specifically condemns non-believers and anyone 'different'. It sets out a rigid set of rules and offers no room for debate or alternate understandings.
4. A large number of those Christians attempt to effect those rules on all of society, regardless of the morality of those rules.
5. Christianity is specifically 'evangelical' in nature and its holy book instructs its followers to spread the so-called 'Good News', making it particularly insidious.
6. More people have been killed in the name of Christianity than in the name of any other religion.
7. Most of the theists on Y!A are Christian. Most of the outspoken and hate-filled theists here are Christian.
Now that I've got that out of my system, I am not aggressive towards Christians. I am aggressive towards bigots, homophobes, sexists and people who try to force their beliefs on others. If it so happens that the majority of those people on Y!A hide behind Christianity to do that, you should ask yourself why Christianity provides such an excellent façade behind which you can engage in that kind of behaviour...
Respectfully.

ALL Christians are catching the hostility and anger inspired by SOME Christians who are aggressively attacking our American tradition of religious freedom. If more mainstream Christians, both individually and through their church organizations, would distance themselves from these subversives, would denounce their views and take a firm stance opposing their agenda, then these mainstream Christians wouldn't be assumed to be supporting the subversives. So long as the Christian mainstream is not seen to be declaring itself opposed to the extremists, then many people will assume that they endorse the extremist's views.
(Perhaps most Christians DO deplore the views of these un-American theocrats, and the media chooses not to publicize this?)

This is not true of all Christians -- but Christian Extremists are doing everything they can to take away the rights of those who disagree with them.
1. They persecute a man who wants to take his brain-dead wife off of life support. After losing the legal battle, Jeb Bush even tried to bring criminal charges against him.
2. They bomb women's health centers because they disagree with the legal position that women have choices regarding their productive system.
3. They want to impose their religious views on others by forcing children to say prayers and by posting their religious beliefs in schools and courthouses.
4. They try to block scientific research that will help all men -- like stem cell research.
5. They try to block the teaching of science, because it conflicts with their narrow interpretation of a religious text that nonChristians do not believe.
6. They block the teaching of Sex Education -- making the US have one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the west.
And that is, pretty much, why I will be aggressive against SOME Christians.
Oh -- and I'm not an atheist.

Have you been paying attention to the news?
The "religious right" is attempting to use their influence to drag this nation back to the 1st Century.
What do you expect? Do you expect non-Christians to just lay down and let Pat Robertson & the pope drive tanks over them?
Christians declared war on non-Christians during Reagan's term in office and Christians will pay the price. The vast majority of people (Christians or otherwise) do not want Pat Robertson or people who agree with him determining govenment policies.
Perhaps fundamentalist, Pat Robertson Christians should go back to their churches and keep their noses out of politics.
Atheism, the only logical choice.

Ever notice how people get overly defensive when they know they're wrong? That would be why atheists are so aggressive. They're trying to prove a point that they can't believe themselves.
Let them hate all they want, they'll get along with Satan well, and they can have tea parties in Hell.

That is a good question. I think alot of people think Christians try to pressure them into choosing their religion. Add that with the fear of the unknown and you get aggression. Thats just my thought

I believe that the opposite is true. Christians, for some odd reason, seem to want to convert everyone else. Freedom of religion is one of our most valuable rights here in the USA. Let me be free to believe what I want and I'll leave all you fanatics alone.

I Agree 100% with Batgurl, yet to add that is not about all atheists or any group of people and or any religion in general.
Is about indivituals, people who cant support their believes and are not confident that they are correct, intent to be aggresive and inpose on others that they are correct and no questions asked.
