It sound like a food allergy of some type, how often and what is he eating that may cause this? Kids are funny about things like this and a checkup with a doctor would be a good thing. I would keep track of what he eats through out the day if you can especially after 4 P.M. and see if you can find a pattern. Could be something strange like peas, spices, etc...

My daughter still does that and she's almost five. I figured the reason is because she was eating too late at night. She goes to bed at 9, so I try to feed her dinner no later than 6. It seems to have helped. There are times when food just doesn't agree with a kid's stomach...that's totally unavoidable.

I have the same problem with my 3 year old. I believe that it is caused by his ears, tonsils, adenoids and sinuses. I think that his sinuses are draining at night (although he does not have a fever or runny nose) down his throat and making him gag. He is seeing an ear, nose and throat doctor next month, so hopefully I will get an answer then. Take him to the doctor and have him checked of course.

I'm certainly not a doctor but in my opinion, your son's symptoms remind me of the symptoms of acid reflux, which are aggravated when lying down. I don't know if a 3-year old can have acid reflux but a doctor should be consulted regardless.

Both of my kids kids did that and it was tied to ear infections. They never had any other symptoms but had cronic ear infections. We had tubes put in one kid twice, they worked but the second kid we took to a chiropractor that took medicaid and it was fixed quickly without surgery. Go to a doc to find out what is wrong and take that info to a chiropractor, they can try to fix it with out meds and surgery!

you should talk to your doctor. my son did this a few times, but it was because he kept putting toys in his mouth and choking. it could also be acid reflux. definately talk to the doctor.
