Both.

James 2:14-26 “Of what benefit is it, my brothers, if a certain one says he has faith but he does not have works? That faith cannot save him, can it? ...You believe there is one God, do you? You are doing quite well. And yet the demons believe and shudder. But do you care to know, O empty man, that faith apart from works is inactive?... You see that a man is to be declared righteous by works, and not by faith alone.... Indeed, as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”

By the way, Christians who actually believe the bible know that there is no fiery hell.

Religion is not an insurance policy, to guarantee your safety. And good deeds are good because there are also bad deeds(a comparison). What will save you and other people is by doing what is needed in the situation, out of sincere love for all.

There are no fires of hell. Talk to any theologan and that idea was really just made up to scare people into being good. but it is good deeds that decide whether or not youre a good person.

Religion speaks only about Good Deeds.
If U r a Christain, the first poem U will learn is about "Abou Ben Adhem"

If U r a Hindu, U would have heard " Vaishnav Jan to Peed paraye jaane..."

My knowledge on other religions is limited , so I cudnt offer any quotes. But U must get the message loud and clear

Both
John 3:16 ...who so ever believeth on him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.

If you truly have faith, then you will do good deeds. When you mess up, pray.

"Fires of hell" are reserved for the unforgivable sin.

Not that anybody really knows the answer to that, but I would go with good deeds myself.

Frankly, you can obviously be religious and a total crud, and I don't think that gets you anywhere.

however it does state in revelations that those who are not faithful will be judged by their works those deemed worthy will be left behind to start a new earth. (can't remember verses - third party involved) -after they're given two or three opportunities to become faithful.

this is christian- other religions may be very different.

Believing Jesus died for your sins is what will save you from the fires of hell. That is all it takes.
