The key to growing long hair is to keep it healthy. First off nutrition for hair comes from the inside. Eat a healthy diet and drink lots of water. I would suggest not using a hair dryer or any temperature/chemical treatments. Drying it is the worst however since it damages the entire length of the hair, while curling (etc) usually only damages the ends. Condition it every day. Do an extra conditioning treatment once a week (tom's of Maine avocado butter hair treatment, mayonnaise, etc). Brush it before you take a shower and comb the conditioner through the entire length of your hair after applying it and before rinsing it out. Use only snag free hair toys. Braid it or keep it in a ponytail at night. When you brush or comb it start from the ends and slowly move up piece by piece brushing downwards. Starting from the scalp forces knots and tangles and breaks hair.
GOOD LUCK!

Let it grow, and get it trimmed every 8 weeks or so to get rid of split ends. Trimming doesn't make it grow longer, but it keeps any splits from creeping up the hair shaft, so it keeps your hair healthy. If you want it long, make it healthy long. This means avoid lots of blow drying. Let Mother Nature do the job for you.
Long hair is old hair, so it has to be conditioned very well. Apply a deep conditioner about once a week to keep the ends from drying out. Natural oils condition the hair, but they don't reach the entire shaft, so you have to help it out. Also, when you brush it, be gentle, brush from the ends to the roots, and from the outer shafts inward toward the scalp.
Long hair requires extra care, but it's BEAUTIFUL. To me it's worth it. I love my long hair, it's healthy and butt length. I'm aiming for mid-thigh.
Good luck to you!

I used to have long hair, now I have shoulder length, and just decided to let it grow until it reaches about 80 centimeters (ca. 53.3 inches).
First of all you should go to a hair dresser to get a haircut. I know it sounds silly, but it'll give the later shape and style of your hair. Also a hair dresser could give you advice about how to treat long hair properly.
What you should know about long hair is that it needs more care then short hair. You need to use the proper shampoo for your hair type, conditioner, deep conditioner etc.It also needs to be combed regularly or it might get greezy.
Take extra care when you dry and comb it however, in order to prevent your hair from getting damaged.
Also important: long hair needs to be cut regularly at the ends where it commonly splits and gets ugly.

Let it grow out.. be patient..
Make sure you keep it wel conditioned to prevent dry hair and go for an occasional trim as this encourages growth.
Not everyone has suitable hair for it to grow out looking fantastic..so if you have really thin hair I'd suggest extensions. They're expensive but deliver instant results!!

Try a wig first. It's not as glamorous as it looks like. But if you're comfortable with it, then let it grow.
And if you're having problems in growing long hair, just keep the wig.

Trim it regularly, just a half inch every month and a half or so. This stimulates growth at the scalp. It also keeps hair healthy so it can grow. Beleive it or not, it works.
