Government and Mori Poll;

59% Scots want out of union... but just 21% of English want to see Scotland leave the UK?

(Plus, as for Scots voting on English issues in parlianment, I'd like to say thanks to the English for introducing the the poll tax in Scotland while hoovering billions in our oil. Talk about raping a nation). Let's be fair about the situation 'Brits', who wants out!?

Hear, hear. I'm a Scot and I'm pig-sick of the government introducing all the controvertial laws in Scotland first,'cos they don't care if they p*** us off.
AND why do we pay so much for oil when it should be ours in the first place?
Don't get me started...

The Mori poll was based on where people live rather than their origins. There are more Scots living in England than the entire population of Scotland. The Scots who want to leave the Union are the ones who haven't already voted with their feet to stay in.

If you want to leave, are you going to persuade the Scots in England to return home?

I'm from the north of ireland too. At the moment unfortunately most of the people here still want to stay in the union but I think what will happen is this. First Scotland will go independent as you have pointed out, Wales will go next.

Now given that do you really think the english will want to remain in a union with Northern Ireland and what that will cost them financially. Of course not so what will happen is that N Ireland will remain in the union, only it will be a union with nobody!

The English don't moan about us being in the BRITISH parliament.... the problem is called the 'West Lothian question' wherein Scottish MPs are able to vote on subjects in Westminster that relate ONLY to the English, whereas English MPs cannot do so for Scotland as those matter are handled by our own parliament. I think we all have to agree that that is hardly fair. The English have no problem with us being in the British Parliament so long as we are voting on matters that relate to the whole Union, it's when we get to vote on matters that have nowt to do with us that they take issue.

So... in reply to your opening statement.... the English don't moan about us being in the British parliament.... which seems in line with there only being 21% of English wanting us out of the union.

I think you have to look closer at how the question is phrased.

There is a big difference between 'want to see Scotland leave' and 'would object to Scottish Independence'

I think most English people like you but would support Scots Independence out of respect.

Sean Connery supports it so it must be right!

I have listened to the recent arguments and think the excuse that the Tory leaders used was pathetic. Remember the experiment in Scotland by a party with 2 MPS to foist the poll tax on Scotland,....no they forget that,. don't they. Now the tables are turned they don't like it.

I personally feel we have more in common with the Danish and Scandinavians than Saxons..........

the ONLY reason scottish mps can vote on english law is coz Tony Blair kept them in as a guarranteed labour vote!!!

Yep, we 'nicked' North sea oil from you but we did ALL the investment on diging it up etc. Once paid back, you can have it..

My experiences with scotsmen or whatever you call yourselves are that they are arrogant towards the English and hate living in England. Yet they are happy to live as ex-pats and moan about wanting independance. Shift on out then back to your own country and stop bleating on. And take Brown with you to run your own parliament.
