Metanium - brilliant for bad sores. Sudocrem is good for prevention. Obviously babies' bottoms must be kept clean and dry to avoid rashing in the first place.

Calmoseptine. You can find it at your local drugstore. It's non-prescription, but you still have to ask the pharmacist for it because they keep it behind the counter. It's got a typical zinc oxide base, but it also contains menthol and calamine, so it's incredibly soothing. I've used it from birth with both of my boys, and when they do occasionally have diaper rash, it clears it up (in most cases) overnight. It's also incredibly thick, and unlike A&D, Desitin, Balmex, etc., it won't immediately absorb into the diaper...this actually coats the skin and stays on between diaper changes, keeping the baby's skin protected from urine and feces.
If you can't find this, try either Triple Paste or Boudreaux's Butt Paste. They're a close second, but they're no Calmoseptine!

I still think it's Desitin original... it now comes in a purplish-tube. It's very thick. I've tried a lot of them: Johnson&Johnson, Boudreaux's ButtPaste, but they all seem too creamy and they don't seem to form that protective barrier. The Johnson&Johnson triple cream actually seemed to irritate my son more than his rash alone did! Good luck to you... I know diaper rash is a pain. I don't know how old your baby is but depending on age, try to let them "air out" a few times each day... if infant, lay them on their diaper but don't fasten it... let the residue from your diaper wipes dry out on their skin before sealing the diaper. If they are a toddler, let them run around in the buff for a while! Air will help a diaper rash a LOT. Good luck to you and baby!

First of all, treat the cause rather than the symptom. Trust me. Change your baby's diaper often and make sure that the backside is not wet. Don't let your baby sleep in soiled diapers and check or change every 4 hours or so. Make sure you change diapers before you or baby goes to sleep, if your baby is one of those who sleep through-out the night without waking up in the night for feed.
I'd recommend Desitin cream to the buttock. Don't get the one in the white box coz it's really smelly. Purchase the one in a blue coloured box which says "Desitin Creamy"

The best diaper rash cream that there is out there is Aveeno. There are also bar soaps are lotions that are used for the same thing.

My son has bad eczema spots on his little tush & we used Burt's Bees Diaper Ointment for just the first week & it cleared it almost completely up! It was amazing! You don't have to use much of the stuff cuz it won't rub off on the diaper, but yet it wipes off easily with a wipe or washcloth (weird huh?). Seriously I would check out that line of baby stuff, it's all I use now because his skin is so sensitive.

My mom and her mom both used A & D ointment, and we all have really sensitive skin. Some of the others, like Desitin, made us break out even worse. A & D has been around forever and a day....and works like a charm. You can use it on all types of other rashes and skin problems too!

I like Desitine. I always use it on my kids and the rash is usually cleared up by the time I change their next diaper!!!!
You just got to watch out for what babies are allergic to?!?!?!?!
Good Luck

Vaseline is the best older remedy, however I have tried "Johnson's 3 in 1 No More Rash " and it works great. Try either or...
