My 6 month old child has suddenly changed her liking towards breast milk. She cries a lot when my wife tries to feed and stops crying as soon as she is put down. The baby is happily taking solid/processed foods. My wife is worried abt this. Can anyone help out or share experiences?

Don't stop Breastfeeding. Tell ur wife to be patient. This may b nursing strike. Don't force the baby to the breast. U can consult ur child's doctor. In the meantime, feed the baby when she is asleep. Babies tend to nurse during their sleep.

Good luck,

It sounds like a nursing strike. The baby isn't objecting to the milk, but to nursing. There are a *lot* of possible causes. Please call a local La Leche League Leader (see sources section) who will be able to help you for *free*. Keep in mind that Leaders are all volunteers who work from their own homes while caring for their own kids, so if you don't get through immediately, try again or call a different Leader.

The baby is *not* weaning; babies don't do that before about 2 years old. And it is almost certainly *not* something the mother is eating. It is much more likely to be that the baby is mad at your wife (maybe she yelled during the last feeding), or your wife may have changed soap, deodorant, or other personal care produce (so baby doesn't recognize her smell). There could be other causes, as well; contact the real expert...

This sounds like a nursing strike. It is extremely rare for a baby under 18 months to self-wean. Tell your wife to get a good double electric hospital grade pump to keep her supply up during this time. She should spend a lot of skin-to-skin contact with the baby. Have her try nursing the baby when she is sleepy or sleeping. My ten month old recently went on a 10-day nursing strike and I broke it by napping topless with her and nursing her in her sleep. She is now back to nursing sometimes over 20 times a day!

A six-month-old should be eating very little amounts (if any) of solids. Sudden weaning like this can be devastating to mother and child, so don't listen to these people who don't know anything about breastfeeding telling you to give it up. A good lactation consultant and a La Leche League Leader are invaluable resources during this time.

All of these websites have nursing strike sections....good luck and please don't give up!!!

Breast feeding is the most organic element in the international. that is likewise the healthiest element for the toddler. I breast fed my son yet, I placed a blanket over my shoulder extra out of modesty than some thing else. in case you don't like it, do not seem. it isn't incorrect for a baby to make certain a mom breast feed. that is a organic element of existence and it isn't incorrect on your baby to understand this. You sound very bitter and it really is as once you've some weird and wonderful obsession with breasts and breast feeding. i do not blame the guards at Disneyland for throwing you out of the park. you want remedy or some thing.

Has their been any changes to moms diet? Has mom started taking a new medicine?

You wife may have eaten somthing spicy or garlicy- a taste that your baby wasn't used to. It might be as simple as that...

See if it is that first...If it's not that then you might want to pay a visit to a pediatrician or a nursing consultant/midwife/gyno.
I would NOTstop nursing because of this, however. The risks of switching to formula at this point far outweigh the benefits. Examine mom's diet first...this could be the culprit.

Anything that mom eats gives a certain flavor to breast milk. Is there anything that she has recently started eating that she hadn't before? Also, your baby could just not want it anymore. There are alot of factors. She might not like being held down.

that is normal if your diet has changed, she may have an allerrgic reaction to it now, or she just might be ready to eat food, you could get her formula or another milk replacement this happens all the time, she is 6 months, it is ok to not breast feed, your baby can still be healthy.

My wife has to watch what she eats because it will come through in the breast milk (i.e. onions, garlic) She could also be teething and the food could be helping her gums to feel better. Good Luck!!

the baby is trying to tell her she is sick of sucking on that dried up old nipple LOL - no seriously, she no longer wants it and has in appetite for baby food, understandable. listen to your child, there is nothing she should worry about, doctors are stupid because they can't put each baby's likings, behavior and growth all in the same box. at 6 months, your baby is going to want bigger baby food, how long do you expect the baby will continue to want that nipple? my daughter is 3 months now and already smacking her lips for food, so we give her gerber veggies.

Good Luck and don't worry. Listen to Baby!

it could be something that your wife is eating, then it could be that your child is just weening theirself off the breast since they are eating other foods, then your wife could try express the milk and giving it to her in a sippy cup.if all else fells try talking to her peditrican.hope it works out for her
