It wouldn't matter what type of format that you did. You ned to install the drivers manually. Video drivers are usually found on the discs that came with your computer. If you don't have the discs then find the video controller installed in your system, go to thar companies web site and DL the install package.

Formatting your laptop is like emptying a bottle of its contents. After format, insert a bootable CD to begin with and start hard disk scan. Afterwhich, insert the motherboard driver CD that came with it when you purchased your laptop and boom!.. all of the NEEDED start-up drivers will be installed.

if you installed windows xp it should have some sort of drivers for video cards. Otherwise you will have to find out what type of graphics card you have and find the drivers online.
if you are not sure what graphics card you have find the type of laptop you have online and look at the specs and then download the drivers.

Driver CDs (or floppy disks, for older computers) come with the motherboard, video cards, etc, if you buy them separately. With big brand PCs it might be bundled into one CD.

Go to the manufacturer's website and look for a link to their drivers page (sometimes comes under support)

For example an nVidia card: www.nvidia.com
