My mom gets alot of PayPal email notifications, like to verify her account. But she doesn't even have an account with them. She reports these to spoof @ paypal dot com.
Do they ever take care of these reports at PayPal? It seems like the more she reports these spoofs, the more they happen.
And based on how common these emails are, it's obvious that people can spoof emails of any well known company very easily. Why is that? What more can be done in order be far ahead of the sneakiness of those who do the spoofing?

Paypal claims to aggressively shut these sites down when you report them. I had a security specialist once tell us that they spent several million $'s doing this including physical raids when they could determine an address.
Much of this comes from overseas and according to some gov sources, some of this is from the countries themselves rather than criminals. Many of the "transfer money from my country" scams have at least lower level government assistance to remain functional year after year.
The Internet is unregulated (mostly) and without being willing to put filters in the pipelines to trap "known" SPAMS, spoofs, and phishing attacks, we'll continue to see more. Problem there is who determines what is legitimate? "Who will watch the watchers?"

I've reported 3 spoof emails. It took a while but in each case PayPal reported back that legal action was taken. Can't prove the truth of that statement so one can only hope.

she needs to report them to the Federal trade COmmision, too. there is an address that paypal provided for me to do that. Maybe it will help.
