If you have never changed your battery, then it is ten years old - and well beyond it's service life. Get a new one even if you do have another problem. It will probably remedy your dilemma.
One time in my jeep, the rear dome light was left on for a long time, and it killed the battery a couple of times before we noticed it - take a look at that stuff so you don't look stupid in front of the mechanic.
You can do a quick check of your electrical system - turn everything off in your car and disconnect one of the battery terminals. With everything off, there should be very little current draw on your battery - only for the clock, the radio, maybe one of the on-board computers. when you put the cable back on, you should only see a tiny spark if any at all. If you see a bigger spark, then there is something else in your car that is drawing power when it is turned off. You can somewhat isolate it by pulling out the fuses one at a time and see if the spark is reduced. This is kind of crude, but if you do find something, it will save the repair person some time (and you $$) in tracking it down.
Cheers!

Regarding the battery problem, it could be that your battery is not holding the charge because the battery is dead. Thus, I would suggest buying a new battery.
Regarding the "sometimes when it gets started it will not stay started unless the accelarator is being pressed", you have a bad connection somewhere, maybe with one of your belts such that if a wheel is stuck and you press the accelerator, the wheel gets unstuck and then you have no more problems. I had that problem with my Ford.
Hope this helps.

It is most likely your battery. If you install a new battery and the problem remains it is probably your starter solenoid. When these go bad the car will generally make enough power to start it up again as long is it has not been sitting too long. When the solenoid sticks it draws a massive amount of energy so it does not take long to drain the battery. Also the battery will not be able to handle this abuse too long. Most of the time when this happens you will have to replace the battery too because it has been drained to many times to hold a charge anymore.
Hope I have been helpful.

The cheapest might be to buy a new battery. Your jeep is old enough the battery might simply be dying of old age. If the problem continues take it to the dealer to check out possible electrical problems draining the battery.
Or... try asking your question here:

I can't say for sure what is wrong with your vehicle, but I can tell you that buying a new battery will make everything run better if that was the problem...a new battery fixes ots of complaints on a vehicle, and if I was trying to stay out of a mechanics shop that is what I would try first,

Either your charging system is not working (alternator), or battery. You can always take to one the the parts stores and have your battery checked and have the alternator checked as well, most offer this as a free service such as autozone and advanced auto.

You might need a new battery or you might need to go to the auto parts store and buy a book on your car to find out the problem.

Try with a new battery if you still have the same problem then it may be the alternator or faulty wiring draining the current.

maybe the alternator, datrt and disconnecto the red or positive side, if it goes dead its athe alternator . of just go have it checked at a nearby suto parts store.. u can also place a screwdriver while it is running on the back side of the alternator where the magnet is and see if it draws it if it doesntit is bad.

i would check your alternator for keeping the battery charged and your wiring to make sure the connection is being made right. and if u have to keep giving it gas to stay on i would check the fuel filter.
