Use 'System Restore'

What is 'System Restore'?
- The System Restore feature is built into Windows XP and is used to return your computer to an earlier state if you have a system failure or other major problem with your computer. The point of System Restore is to restore your system to a workable state without you having to reinstall the operating system and lose your data files in the process.

If you know what the virus is called, go to www.sophos.com and download a fix for it. However, without virus software I doubt you know what it's called! In future, use some virus protection software - it needn't cost you anything (AVG is an example of very good free software ) but it will save you a lot of hassle. Sadly, today, viruses are inevitable unless to keep your PC disconnected from any network and don't put any disks or CD in it!

Sure, heres another creative solution. find a friend who reads a lot of tech magazine, those come with free software CD to try out, borrow and install, scan and youll get the virus for free.

One other thing to try is to remove your hard-disk, bring it to a friends PC with an updated anti-virus program, slave your HDD to your friends PC, and scan...

No - you need virus scanner. Even formatting may leave some viruses.

You can download free AV software anyway - like http://www.free-av.com
