it's not true that all do... however, the reason that MOST do is their inherent fear of death. Man is the only animal aware of his own mortality; and as such, he creates all manners of ways to make the concept more acceptable, even rewarding... such as, an eternal afterlife in a NeverNever Land sort of setting. That makes death almost nice... yet, so many 'go out' with much apprehension and resistance, clinging to life while holding an unfounded belief that everything is wonderful and perfect and painless 'on the other side'. Silly people.

there are certain things which can't be explained by science. it is safe to say, so far it is true. for those things you got to see the answers in the religion. if you ponder yourself, you may be astray. the more you think, more you get frustrated. you got to think which religion gives the best explanation for this. it is obligation of everyone to seek light and the right path and these are the sort of questions which induce people to get the right path. I am physics student needs not to be mentioned but i think physics doesn't have answer for this SO FAR and the only religion which provides satisfactory answers to the question like this and other intriguing questions is ISLAM. don't be biased after reading this as world media has hostile attitude towards this wonderful religion. Really I am saying from the bottom of my heart that even if you are a leading scientist or a layman, Islam has answers for every soul. Don't see with the eyes of media. Just indulge yourself/ves in finding out truth about Islam, you would get to find much more than I could write here and most importantly it will appeal.
All this I am saying not because I myself is muslim but because this religion appeal. it really does.

Yours is a leading question. It assumes a fact not in evidence, that everyone wants to become immortal. I don't think everyone does. I would be very surprised if more than a handful of people came forward and claimed that they want to be immortal. What do you do then? You cannot die, even if you want to.
I think everyone wants to live a long and healthy life. Most people probably fear death, because it it final.

Do they? I am not so sure.

Eternity is a long, long time.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Would you be in 24 hours.

24 years? 24 millenia? 24 x 10^10000000000 years?

And thats just the beginning.

At what point would you get bored?

At 24 x 10^10000000000000000000000000000 years?

Or maybe 24 minutes?

Eternity sounds as close to hell as it is possible to imagine.
