I don't know about Indian Runners specifically, but when my brother bought my father a pair of ducks the place from which he bought them suggested being very careful as a lot of duck breeds are in fact very very noisy during the mating season, and if they are to be kept in a garden with neighbours you need to be aware of that. In the end we had a pair of Lavender Muscovys who were very splendid - although sadly a fox killed the hen, we replaced her with an Aylesbury duck who was also really really lovely - very pretty, like Jemima Puddle Duck! Find a place that sells them and ask the expert's advice. You will need a pretty big garden and somewhere that they can get in to water - not necessarily a big pond, but they do need to be able to get wet occasionally - my dad sank an old bath in to the bottom of the garden and they seemed very happy with that. Another warning, if you have a nice patio or terrace area they do poop absolutely everywhere and it is horrid stuff, very slippy if you step in it! Oh, and they were always nibbling at my mums lovely plants that were in pots on the terrace!!
OK, haven't directly answered your Q, but hopefully I have given you some food for thought about keeping ducks in a garden generally. I hope the Indian Runners do work out though becuase they are just the most fantastic ducks, hours of entertainment just watching them rush about. My boyfriend really wants a flock of them too, but doesn't live in a place that would allow for them. Hey ho.
Quack!

Depends how big your garden is. Ducks need a good sized fenced off area, with some grass, some trees for shade, and preferably a pond with running water. Or a really good sized filter.
If its too small the pond water will be muddy within 24 hours, the grass area will be quagmire covered in bright green droppings within a week, and your ducks will be grubby looking.
I'd say for a trio of ducks an area 40 x 40 feet would be the minimum.

Runner ducks are more likely to "clean" all those pesky bugs out of your garden, than eat all the plants in it. They are the best foraging duck. They love snails, slugs, worms and just about all those other bugs you'll find in your garden.

we had Indian runners in are garden but we had two gardens one for flowers and the other for ducks, chickens and geese so the answer to your question is no unless you have a lot of garden

A family friend has a few Indian runner ducks and they are really great fun. they don't fly, and they are very upright in their posture. They do seem to know the owners and run up to them when they come into the enclosure. We sit and watch them and they do like to play in the water bucket, and make holes in the ground with their beaks. they are not very loud and are quite comical. I think you'd enjoy them. God luck!

Not if you want to keep any plants in your garden, as they'll have 'em.
