Weird question but i kind of wonder how much energy is used when talking. Does speech 'involve' other organs apart from the brain or is it just the brain 'burning' sugar?

speech involves your lungs, throat and your face muscles and many more muscles.
Burning of calories depends upon how loud you are speaking. Apart from the generalised 100 cals per hour you need:
5 cal hour to talk to you date
50 cal an hour to talk to your spouse.
500 cal an hour to talk to your in-laws.

About 100 calories an hour. It really does not make a significant difference if you are speaking or silent. Burning calories does not change much with sedate activities , it is only when you start jogging or swimming or some other arduous exercise that the burn rate goes up.

Good question. I am only afraid that if I read books vocally, somebody can make a false conclusion. But it is not bad 10 hours and 1000 kcal. Maybe even better that to wolk 5 hours in streets.

In one of the Hindu spiritual lectures which I heard, they said that energy consumed by speech is more; only next to carnal pleasures. Also they told speech/ talk can be equated to fire ; hence we tell heated debate , fiery speech etc. So more of calories are consumed and we get more exhausted. So "speech is silver" but "silence is gold". Choose wisely. But be wary of the fact that silence is often misinterpreted! So enjoy talking judiciously!!
