Ton is a weight different to tonne

OLD style English weight.

bags are just bags, (Tons can also be used as slang for LOTS)

so 2 tons of coal would be more than 2 bags (unless VERY BIG BAGS!)... mind u bags is slang now sort of!!

one ton=2000 pounds
bag of charcoal= 10 pounds
the difference=1990 pounds!

Much easier to carry a bag of charcoal on your shoulders than a ton.
A bag is enough for a BBQ.
A ton will be too much.( i think. )
