First off, go with Media Center Edition. It's windows XP pro / home. dont ask how but that's how it is. And for the brand, go Dell. Dell has some of the best computers out there right now. If you can, go with a alienware computer. there hell of a lot faster and worth the price.

you better choose Window XP Media Center Edition, but you better wait till the Vista is out like Chad said

hold off a while all these pc are dropping in price ,they may get real cheep around November before vista comes out. i like xp pro ,I can change the Chanel on my TV with its remote.
