It's a body capacitance thang.

It's really annoying, isn't it? Makes it hard to find a good position for the antenna. Try moving the antenna with a piece of string tied to it.

Handy for playing the theremin,, though!

The easy reason is because you are being used by the radio as an extension of the aerial. This is possibly because radio signals are a fom of energy and the human body is a good conductor of energy

Oh I dont know the scientific reason, but I guess its kinda using your body as an extension to the aerial, making it bigger/stronger. Then when you move away its on its own again?

Your body is 70% water. Water acts as a conductor for electromagnetic waves, so if you hold the aerial, your body becomes part of the aerial, enabling it to pick up stronger signals.

we have electricity in our bodies, that's also why when you rub your head (with lots of hair) for a few seconds and than touch something metal you get shocked just like if you would've touch an electric outlet....or when you run barefoot on your carpet and than touch either something metal or another person.....that's also why if you get strike by a lightening and you're barefoot the lightening will just pass thru you and it won't hurt you because you become part of it.

because our body is sort of an amplifier to the antenna. it magnifies the signal, meaning, we are bombarded with all sort of radio signals in the atmosphere.

I am no expert but I think it's because human body has static electricity.

You are an antenna.

Sorry that it isn't more scientific than that.
