I had an IUD inserted after giving birth to 2 girls. First daughter was conceived on the patch, second on the nuva ring. I'm very fertile. My fiance also has a very high sperm count. I was pregnant once before with using condoms. I miscarried that child though. I've had the mirena IUD 14 months. So far I'm not pregnant. My doctor told me that an IUD is the most effective form of birth control other than tubal litigation. I've never used a condom while using it because I've only been with one man. The only people I've ever heard of getting pregnant while on the IUD happened at least 20 years ago. I'm sure they are much safer now. I wouldn't worry too much about getting pregnant. Just make sure you have your IUD checked every 6 months to a year. I also spend $1 on a pregnancy test every 3 months just in case. I've never had a positive test. I just went to the doctor last week and he said everything was fine at my check-up. Good luck.

IUDs are a reasonably effective form of contraception, provided they are fitted properly, so it is unlikely you will get pregnant. IUDs do not, however, protect against sexually transmitted diseases, and even if you have an IUD fitted it is strongly advisable always to use a condom during sex.

abstinence is the only 100% of not getting pregnant...or not having the vital parts necessary...however IUD is 98-99% effective...and 1-2% NOT.

I got an IUD in Sept 2004 and so far, no pregnancy. I am in a surious relationship, so it was the best choice for us. We dont have to worry about having condoms around, me taking the pill on time, etc etc. Its great.

IUD has a small failure rate of 0.5 - 1%. It is, however, one of the most effective and convenient contraceptive method available. Tubal ligation (sterilisation) has a similar failure rate.
