Hypocrites. I'm not saying that all rappers are deep and thoughtful but don't be going around saying stuff like " Rap is evil", "Rap is not Music", "Rap is Anti this Anti that".
Then y'all turn around and say that Metal and Rock are more sophisticated. You can't be serious with that. If you wanna judge Rap music by accusing the Rappers for being Bad influences for young kids then what you gonna say about them Rockers who got piercings all over their bodies.
Real Rap is like poetry. Look past the surface and try to understand it' fore you make ignorant comments.

Deep down inside y'all just mad because black folks are making money and fame off rapping.
So you find new ways to keep us down.
Guns don't shoot unless you pull the trigger. So yeah be smart and blame all the blood shed on Rap music.

Personally, and I am older, I would listen to rap over metal or rock any day of the week, metal and rock give me a headache. As far as the words go, I let my kids listen to rap and we get a kick out of it becuase they know how they should behave and what rappers say is strictly entertainment. I laugh when my 5 year old sings her abc's and then follows up with every day I'm hustlin. Plus white folks have to dance to rap becuase I don't think dancing to metal or rock is possible, but I don't think people listen to the words when they are dancing. As far as sophistication is concerned none of the music you have mentioned is really sophisticated, for that you have to go old school to R&B, and classical. But I will keep listening to rap when I want to get pumped up, like doing housework, or working out, or dancing.

The rhyming of rap can be very clever, but I'm not big on rapid-fire monotones. If anyone can dance to it at all, especially after criticizing it, them that person must be desperate to fidget.
Besides, that sort of thing was done better over 100 years ago, and set to a good melody besides. It's called a "patter song," and Gilbert and Sullivan were masters of the art. Also infinitely better than rap is "Rock Island," which follows the overture of the musical "The Music Man," and does a very credible imitation of the sounds and movement of a train while introducing the situatiion and the title character (Prof. Harold Hill).
Of all the rap I have heard over the years, I have found at most two pieces (one is Will Smith's "Parents Just Don't Understand") to be of any interest to me whatsoever. I also liked the way Run-DMC paired with Aerosmith for a cover of "Walk This Way."
My take:
When they talk about the players,
Makes me want to reach for Bayer.
Now you know I don't like rap,
But I can't call it "crap,"
'Cause crap is good for fertilizer - rap ain't good for nothin'.
And the lyrics are so explicit; that kind of stuff used to be illicit!

I don't recall too many rockers being gunned down or going to prison over an East-West rock war or anything. I DO SEE black kids that are so easily influenced by what rappers do, they copy every move they make, and become little thugs. This is a social problem, people generally don't like crotch grabbing, glorification of violence/guns/drugs degrading women, gross bling or materialism etc.
ANYWAY, you are probably witnessing wiggers dancing like apes in the dance clubs. These fake douchebag rap wannabes are a disgrace to just about everyone. They are trying to fit in and the sad thing is that they don't fit in anywhere at all. Feel pity for them, the white folks treat them like they have the plague and black folks kinda just put up with them. We don't know what the heck to do with them, so we just give them a baseball cap to wear sideways and point them to the nearest dance club.

see back in the day when hip hop was the bomb i am talking hits like the south bronx you know the party stuff the bridge nice and smooth pete rock all the pioneers of the genre then you got people like mobb deep 50 cent 36mafia that talk about drug dealing and killing yes it is a part of who they are and thats fine and cool but they come with it like its something to be proud of and sound like they try to glorify it unlike 2 great rappers who did a little of both and never glorified it or denied that thats what they dealt with and i am talking about
2pac and Biggie Rap is onlyt evil if you let it be and try to live ypur life like the rappers do because you think there cool
the main thing that pisses me off about rap now a days is everyones song, rap whatever try to make it seem like they till out there hustling and living a hard life when we know they not
when you get a chance look for a song called cigarettes by fort minor its a great break down of how the rap game is now

people DANCE to things that have a good rhythm. rap/hip-hop has a good rhythm, so it doesnt matter what they're talking about as long as the rhythm's good.
people LISTEN to things that have lyrics they can relate to and possibly things that are melodic. rap isn't exactly melodic, so that takes out a part of the population; the white people you're talking about usually can't relate to the things rappers rap about, so that's why they don't like rap.
gangsta rap can be a bad influence to those who don't understand it, and some of it actually IS bad - the bad stuff is the stuff made by people that are trying to start violence and racism (NOT tupac, NOT jay-z, NOT 50cent, but "cop killer" is a song that comes to mind)

It's true that rap/hip-hop music has been churning out more creativity and originality than probably any other "type" of popular music for a long time. Rap has been an innovative cultural and musical voice for a long time now. People who don't recognize this haven't listened to it, heard it, aren't thinking for themselves, aren't educated about popular culture, etc. Rap falls into ruts and copycatting like any other kind of music, but it's legacy is still kickin. I'm a white girl b.t.w. and I recognize this.

let me go head and answer your question it because it a standard for them to hate rap in front of their public but when the get drunk that love rap music and black folk bus some just hated because they did make it and a inspiring rapper did. they hate rap but love when a white person does rap except for eminem. I'm not racist but they need to stop hating and accept for who we are and what we do. so what do its crap to y'all cause y'all cant do so why hate on another Ni99a for coming up realize it. the music that comes from white artists is crap too like that hicks guy.

Rap is often not recognized as music for the simple reason that it has no melody to speak of.
On the other side, it has a strong rhythm and that´s what people dance on, just like you can dance on a drum solo.

I just know i despise most the stuff on late night radio on the big stations in my town.... It's so trashy and all about imagery and none about meaning...
But I know of good rap too...
but the dance club question: all of us have a dirty side that wants to be naughty and grind against someone elses body with music blasting something about hookers and drug dealers. haha
