Why not do the following:-

Right click on empty space on desktop, left click properties. Click on the desktop tab, now click the power button. Within hear you can choose what to do when you press the power button or close the lid on your laptop. So you could set it to go into hibernation or standby when you either close the lid or press the power button. This is exactly the same as "going to sleep" job done!

There might be a button to put it into Hibernation or Standby, but if your laptop fall asleep, it must be a Dell surely. Their Inspiron laptops are really awful. I used to support them, but no more. If it is a Dell, the button would've fallen off.

UPDATE: I can't find a 360 image of a Toshiba Portege unfortunately, and quoting the HD size and memory doesn't give me a model number to work with. On my own IBM laptop there isn't a 'Standby' button, but the computer does go into standby by flicking the on/off switch quickly - rather than keeping it pressed, which would shut it down. Maybe this helps? If not, gie's the model number or the like, so I can dig deeper into support documents and all.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop and my sleep button is named "suspend" in blue letters on the ESC key. I bet your's might be there also. If you find it and you don't know how to activate it, just find a button labeled "FN" or something similar which stands for function on either left or right of your space bar, it might be next to one of the ALT or CTRL keys.

you can put it on "stand by" it is the same thing no need to search for that button, it dose not work for every system then it must be activated.(push all the buttons and see what are they doing)
