Try www.877chicago.com. This site highlights any special events in the area but has great links to some of the attractions. Buy a City Pass as it's a really good value for money way of seeing the main museums & shows etc. Navy Pier is always worth a visit & the river/lake boat trips are a great way to see the city.

IF you are driving to Chicago, then I would suggestion the Chicago Botanical Gardens.

The new millenium park (if you have an MP3 player download the walking tour).

Also, a must do downtown is the chicago architectural foundation tours (walking, Segway, bus, or boat)

In downtown Chicago The Wrigley building (at night) Sears Tower, the Hancock building , the Corn Cob and a look at Lakeshore drive also at night

Navy Pier. They have performances there and fireworks everynow and again. You can probably get a schedule of events online.

There is nice beach close to downtown.
