It is because the formal catholic religion veers away from accepting the scriptures at face value and gives them their own interpretation in several instances. For instance, saying that Mary was a virgin even after Jesus was born... The Bible clearly states that Joseph withheld having sexual relations with her only until the baby Jesus was born (Matthew 1:25). And then there is the matter of the brothers and sisters of Jesus mentioned later.
Also the scriptures state to call no religious person "Father" (Matthew 23)
Also there is the matter of working for your place in heaven, lighting candles etc. The Bible states that we are saved by grace/faith, not works... (Ephesians 2:8&9)
It was items like these obvious errors of interpretation that caused some of the early catholics to "protest" and therefore were labeled protestants... Luther nailed a list of objections to the door of the catholic church becoming the first official protestant

Main problem is the infallibility of the Pope. Catholics must believe that whatever the Pope says comes from God, at least dogma wise. Historically many Popes were self serving and some mentally ill. Protestnats do not have an allegianc to Rome or any mortal but do believe that Christ died for their sins and the New Testament relflcts the way of life.

Years of abuse by the Roman Catholic leadership and clergy, my friend. Centuries of abuse. Today's infestation of hidious and perverted behavior on the part of Roman Catholic clergy is nothing new. In fact, when it's a known fact that today at least 30% of the Roman Catholic priesthood is gay, and who knows how many pedopheliacs (spelling?) there are still in the priesthood, it's no wonder you have Christians protesting and leaving the Roman Catholic Church. Very sad but true.

The main reason is that they do not want to adhere to some teachings and pratices of the Catholics such as venerating Mary and idolizing the saints. Thus, protests were launched against the Church.

I don't believe people have real reasons. They have merely become conditioned to live a religious life because of their upbringing. Besides this, the catholic religion is as evil as all other religions and should be treated as potentially dangerous.

Minus all of the details, the Church many, many years ago had political status. Many people in the church grew away from the real meanings and teachings of Jesus and The Bible. So, people became Protestants (and many other forms).... At least, that's what I was taught last year in World History. I hope that made sense and helped!

There are many reasons for Protestantism. Mostly it is because of a disagreement with Catholic doctrine and rules that are perceived to be written by man and not by God.

It's because the Catholic Church used to be a secular organisation. People had enough of it.
