A year after my marriage with my husband, a woman came to me and declares herself as the legal wife. She showed me a "marriage contract". But when i checked from the National Statistics Office (NSO) the said marriage is not existing. Before i got married w/ my husband, i even checked his singleness from NSO and it was proved that he is single. I even secured a copy of our marriage contract from the NSO .But as of now, my husband accepted that he really married that woman. What is the best thing should i do, in order for me to know if our marriage is the legal one.Hope to hear some answers soon. tnx and God bless!

My husband married the woman, same country where we also married (Philippines).

Legally it would seem to me that you are his wife. In any other way I am not so sure. Did you even know about this woman before you married him? It seems pretty fishy to me that he would have "married" this other woman but not told you. And if he is recognizing this other woman as his wife, there are problems there. You might want to contact a lawyer to help you straighten this all out.

Yes you are the legal wife !

In fact you are both legally married to your husband. Your husband has committed a crime known as bigamy. It is punishable by courts of law.

The reason why you could not see the marriage record at NSO is that marriage under the marriage ordinances can be contracted anywhere in the world. So it is possible that your husband married the first wife in another country .If you examine the marriage certificate of your husbands first wife you will notice that it is probably not contracted in the same country as yours..

All things being equal you can not complain yourself, but the first wife can sue your husband for bigamy because he needed to divorce her first before contracting one with you.

Good luck

if you checked the nso and there's no existing marriage of your husband with other woman then you are the legal wife.

If he excepts the marriage from the other woman then that tells you he was keeping things from you to begin with. You need to contact an attorney right away!
Good Luck!
