I ended up taking them out. She was able to pull her head inbetween the pad and the crib railing, and got it stuck. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. She was fine, but I took the pad out. Is it safer without the pad? I can tell, I won't be getting any sleep for weeks.

yeah, as long she can't fit between the rails, otherwise you need to get a different crib. Good luck :)

Bumper pads in general are for all the people who want to make there babies cribs look pretty including myself. The baby is always much better if the bumper pads are not in the crib. The crib will be a much safer place for baby to sleep without them and so will the baby.

Pads should not be put into a crib until the child is able to sit without support AND crawl.. this way, it anything happens, such as getting her head stuck, she will be able to get it out herself. Also, bumper pads reduce air circulation in the crib and are a contributor to SIDS

Bumper pads are actualy pretty dangerous. Especialy for younger infants, because they can get there face stuck in it while they are sleeping and suffocate.

If your daughter is able to get her head through the railing in her crib thats actualy a bad thing. You might want to look into getting a better crib that she cannot do this in.

I took my daughter's pad out when I found her with her face pressed against it EEEK! Plus when they start pulling up they can use that as a step and launch themselves right out of the crib. I would rather she bump her head a little that fall on it.

Cot bumpers

Is it safe to use cot bumpers now that my baby is seven months old? It's just that she rolls around quite a bit in her sleep and wakes herself up when she hits the sides of her cot. She's also starting to sleep on her stomach - is that okay?
Most babies start rolling and sleeping on their stomach at this age, saus Katarine Nurse Educator Ann Simpson. Their neck control is also much better and they are able to lift their heads to breathe if they get stuck. The SIDS and Kids Foundation recommends that bumpers not be used as they preventthe flow of air in the cot. If she bumps herself and wakes and is unable to self settle, a few gentle pats should reassure her and help her to settle again.

I never used one because of this fear. Actually I use nothing. My daughter was getting her legs stuck in between the rails which scared me a little but she quickly learned that it hurts if she sticks a limb through the rails. I have seen crib sheilds, I wish I had bought one and used one. They are not expensive. I've seen them on walmart.com.

It is much safer without the bumper pads.

If the mattress fits properly and the crib has just a tight fitting sheet, your baby is much safer, not just from injury but from SIDS as well.
