Brazil and West Germany/Germany have both appeared in seven. Brazil played in the 50*, 58, 62, 70, 94, 98, and 02 final matches, while West Germany/Germany played in the 54, 66, 74, 82, 86, 90, and 02 final matches. Italy is next, with six final match appearances, in 34, 38, 70, 82, 94, and 06. Argentina has played in four final matches, in 30, 78, 86, and 90. France has played in two final matches, in 98 and 06.
* The 1950 FIFA World Cup champion was determined by a round robin final round, in which four teams participated, Uruguay, Brazil, Sweden, and Spain. The Uruguay-Brazil match is considered the Final Match because if Brazil won or tied, they would win the cup, while Uruguay needed to win to win the cup. Uruguay won the match 2-1.
