Most Americans who have never been out of the USA, think the the world is America - and that to me is ignorance, and that's just my own opinion. And this does not only apply to Americans. Most people who have never been out of their native country, don't know any better.
And the American media plays a very big part in this. Take CNN for example, I used to love watching it, and then I noticed, especially when the Iraq war started, that they only seemed to focus on the American point of view, and they seem to be shoving it down our throats.
The Americans that I've had the pleasue of meeting are the enlightened ones I feel. Then there are those that think that just because they hail from the good ol' US of A (or from some European countries), that they know it all, and that their way is always the right way.
As for George Bush....well.........
All I have to say is that inspite of his failings, the world was a hell of a lot better place when Bill Clinton was in power - at least he knew how to charm the knickers off of anyone, pun intended.
I hail from Singapore (that's in Asia in case you were wondering), and I am an educated and well-read woman, and it's not my intention to offend anyone, so please respect this is my own humble opinion.

I spent several years living in the US: Florida (very shortly), and Washington, DC. It is a country of extremes and great paradox. Some of the best minds in the universe are to be found there. Intrinsically good, honest, well educated, cultured, well-travelled, literate types - with a highly developed social conscience to boot. People I came to admire, respect and love.
Then there are the OTHERS who tend to be much LOUDER and at times may say breathtakingly stupid things. It's a real shame.

Well for a start, i think Americans are great. I live in the UKSure, they're a little louder than is Brits, but essentially we're the same and thats how i see it. Whn i visited America i got the feeling that everything over there is kinda 'larger than life ' - things in the US (inclusive of the people) seem colourful, friendly, sometimes a bit over-the-top, but, like i say, we can't expect you to be like use here in the UK - we're simply not the same.
I certainly don't hate Americans. I could say i dislike your president, which i do, but i don't dislike sny mroe thatn i dislike our current head of state, Tony Blair - they're both as bad as eachother to be honest.
One perception i think a lot of people here in the UK have about Americans is that you're all fat. I'm not going to lie - when i visited the US, i was indeed shocked by the sheer size of some Americans. But again, thats a problem you have in your country and its not like the UK doesn't have some fat people...
Overall, there are a lot of perceptions of Americans that are held by people over here in the UK (I wouldnt know about other countries) - quite frankly, a lot of people here in the UK think you're fat, rich, obnoxious and a lot like kevin and britney. But i think that anyone who has actually taken the time to travel to the US, like me, thinks that Americans are catually a diverse, mixed group of people who we simply can't pigeonhole into a stereotype. And to all you Americans out there... i like you.

I've met a lot of really nice American people, but you hate it when others critisise your country. Which is a shame because you could learn a lot.
You should turn off the TV and open your eyes to the rest of the world.
Remember You are NOT the world you are only a part of it.

I dont hate the people, but I hate the attitude....

Well, I think as a general country 'arrogant to the point of making people hate you' is the best term.
But that might be mostly to do with your govenment (which everyone hates), and hollywood.
And the fact that they seem to be so arrogant themselves, maybe I've just met the wrong people, but they seem to be stupidly arrogant, especially about their country, despite their gross ignorance.

They are probably wondering why a panywaist like you are so worried about it. No one asks for America's endorsement of "being cool"; probably because its a stupid endeaver.
Is this some sort of lame apology to the world? Why don't you lose the condescention and take care of you and yours; the same as every other person in every society in the world.
