When someone says that the earth is 70% water what is meant is that the oceans cover that much of the surface and the remaining 30% is dry land. Living things are not even considered.

Well if you are taking earth's volume that time also you are including all the creatures living in sea as part of that volume. so water contribute for 70% of the total volume and even if you exclude the sea creatures it is 70% of the earth's.

The earth is about 1% free water by volume make that 2% if you include every other bit of water on the planet including the few liters in you and me. The largest source of water in living things would be in the plant kingdom. In the animal kingdom insects and bacteria would form most of the volume

The earth is not anywhere near 70% water so the sea creature factor is irrelevant.
70% of the earth's SURFACE is covered with water. Most sea creatures are below the surface the better part of their lives.

It's a very rough estimate of how the earth's surface is covered. It does not refer to volume at all. Roughly 70% of the earth's surface is covered in water.

The total marine biomass is miniscule compared to the total amount of water...probably not even measureable. Even without the creatures, the water would still be there!!
