some of the previous answerers said Byblos, which generally heads this list. But I think your answer may depend on what you consider a city. While Byblos is not small, it was not in the past , nor now a major urban site. Some of the previous answerers said Jericho, which is indeed the the oldest walled remains so far; but the neolithic Jericho is not at the site of ancient or modern Jericho. Some of the previous answerers said Damascus. I would agree with them. For over 5,000 years Damascus has been a major urban and trade center located on the same site. Anyway, check the list and make your own choice.

Oldest continuously inhabited city is Byblos, Lebanon. Was originally founded in 5000 BCE, over 7000 YA.

To constitute as continuously inhabited, a city needs to have at least 250 or more people residing at any given time.

You've already got your point winners, so I'll make this brief. Of those listed, including the Wikipedia citations, Damascus in Syria actually refers to itself as "the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world", and claims to have "the oldest open-air marketplace" in the world.

History began being recorded about 6000 years ago in Mesapotamia, the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in what is today, Iraq, of all places. Baghdad and Ur are extremely ancient cities.

Baghdad, since the city form from one borough in ancient Babylon, u can still find remains of the ancient city on Baghdad. In other words Baghdad is simply Babylon, with a different name.
