because we do not take care of ourselves like we should and getting sick is our body's way of weeding out the toxins

So we don't die. Being sick is the body's reaction to a radical change in the homeostatic balance.
If we didn't get sick that would mean our body did "know" it is out of homeostatic balance and whatever the problem is could be fatal.
The reasons we get out of balance vary, but speaking generally, we are a living specie living amongst, and essentially competing with innumerable other living species, and simply put it's the "strongest" that survive.
We get sick when our "personal Eco-system" is compromised. If we get through it we're stronger on the other side, if we don't, the results vary from various disabilities to death.
That's why diet and homeostatic maintenance is so critical.

We feel the symptoms because some pathogen exploits the cells in our body as food, a vessel for reproduction (viral), or when something emits toxins (most of the time waste). The death of these cells causes pain sometimes but not all the time.

The symptoms (usually pain) are there to let us know that something is doing this, in order to get better.

getting sick is a good thing- it builds our immune systems so we don't get as sick as we could. A bit of a paradox, isn't it? :P

Did you know that each cold virus is different and there's about 200 of them? So every time you get a cold, you are immune to that one type forever and you'll never get that same cold again! This means you can only get 200 colds in your life! See? It is good news! :P

Our immunitary system fights a continuous battle against bacteria, microbes and so on. Sometimes, the evil army won a battle or two, and than it's when we do get sick. If the bacteria and microbes army won the war, we are dead.

Getting sick is your body's way out of getting dead.

Because we are organic, a part of nature...not superhumans and far from being the perfect species (none exists). And without illness there'd be less death and then less room for evolution. It's all natural...

Our immune system shuts our bodies down in order to fight off the bacteria/viruses that infect us. If not-we simply die.
