Im a ICT Teacher, and I expect the majority of my pupils to get a level 6 (or for very talented pupils a level 7) at the end of key stage 3, so to get level 5s at key stage 2 is very good. You should be really proud of him

Isn't level 5 what they are expected to achieve at key stage 2? Not 100% sure, but remember the results aren't going to help your son in anyway they are for the school league tables, it won't make a difference when he hits secondary school as he will be re-assessed then. Well done to him tell him to keep up the good work!

This is excellent, at the end of Yr 6 children are expected to attain level 4, to attain level 5 is the highest you can get.

Unfortunately you cannot attain level 6 at this age, the government tests do not make this possible, thus not providing enough challenge to the really bright children.

Sadly in some inner city schools we have a majority of 14 year olds who cannot attain level 5!

im pretty sure level 4 is average and on the bbc website it said that 5 is the max they can get so he must be a clever lad, wen he starts secondry school and they have the next tests in yr9 the max he can get is seven, although as i recall when i was at high school there myself and a few others did an extension paper for english where we could achieve a level 8, hope this helps

Its irrelevant. SATS put pressure on young children when its not needed. SATS are actually a check on the teacher/school. Theyre about as important as what age were they toilet trained. I used to laugh about them with my children and say "just do your best". Both went to uni and nobody has ever asked their SATS results...

At KS2 (Y6), a 'good' student able to get 5+ GCSEs at A*-C should gain L4s. At KS3 (Y9) they should gain L5. He is therefore advanced for his years, and/or a hard worker.

He should be very pleased with himself, as should you!

5 is good/brilliant.

In the GCSE oral exams - 1 was the worst you could get (terrible), and 5 was the highest (brilliant).
